Searched and read many threads on this subject, but did not see much input from guys that made the step up on these two sizes. I want the Revos, but am still on the fence on which size to go with. I have run the 265's from day one...but man those 285's look better. I tow 10,000# on occasion, and run big power all the time. So I guess what I'm after is the pros and cons you guys have noticed between these two sizes....or regrets either way. Thanks.

I got these off of a tire conversion chart. Not alot of difference in size, but you're right, the 285's do look better. 285/75R 16 = 33 X 11.50 X 16, 265/75R 16 = 32 X 10.50 X 16.
I run 285's and am thinking of going with the BFG 295. It has the same load range but it has a higher load capacity.

A bud of mine put 285's on his new '05 Chev. He's run 265's on all of his previous HD's. Very minor rubbing backing up, full lock, uneven ground, not enough to worry about. GMC's may, I understand, have different clearance issues.

My 265's will be replaced with 285's when the time comes.

Yup, they do look much better.

I see you are running aftermarket rims. I have 285's on mine with the stock rims, and I love them. I've towed heavy with no problems. BUT, I went down a couple weeks ago and bought some aftermarket rims, 16x8, 4" backspacing. When they mounted my 285's on the new rims I could barely turn the wheel in any direction without major rubbing on the front bumper. The offset kills you with the 285's. I didn't even leave the shop, I was afraid of damage, and had them put the original rims back on. I'm not willing to drop to a 265 just so I can get new rims.

I'll just add this. My 285's BFG AT's on stock rims have held up really well. I trimmed about a 3/4" tab off the inner side of my front air dam on my 04 (my 02 I just removed the air dam. wish I could on my 04). I use my truck for hunting and have had it in full lock in various terrain... never had a rub yet. I'm in search of low cost (under or at $100ea.) after market rims that have about the same as stock offset to minimize the need of trimming.

I have the 285's on my truck. Only one inch taller than stock. 31's .
I had to crank the torsion bars and cut the front bumper cover.

Is the stock offset around 5"? That is something else I am looking at....some of the rims I like have 4-4 1/4" offset, and I think we should be closer to 5"? I think the old AR's I have are 4 1/2", and the 265's are at the edge of the flairs.

Some guys in another post were suggesting that the bigger tires may have been contributing to suspension and bearing wear on the front end. After reading that, I had pretty well decided to stick with 265''s.

You guys can talk all you want but, Take a good look at 285 Michlen. They may be load range D but can carry more than E and still do it with only 65lbs. How check the ride it don't take long how 65lbs and 85lbs feel. When I hook up my gooseneck I'm pushing the max all the time. Thanks for letting me put my 2 cents in

I have been running 285's BFG's on my 2002 Avalanche and my 2005 2500HD with stock rims. I did crank the torsion bars 5 turns, This gave 1.5 inch on the Avlalanche and 1 inch on the duramax.

I have a 2003 Sierra with 285's, I have a set of American Racing AR-23 with the 285's on and I needed to crank the torsion bars a little and also trim the front air dam a little. I also have the 285's on my stock wheels that I use in the winter and the stock rims have no clearance issues. The aftermarket rims rub just a little when at full lock.
