HAHA Nice try. If you can figure out how to get that taken care of let us all know. I think that you can go down to the dealership and get some new tailgate cables and then sell them on ebay.. Saw some on there the other day and they were fairly priced...Good luck..

The GMC recall packet had a form to fill out for reimbursement for work already done to correct the problem. You include an invoice & cancelled check. I sent mine in today I'll let you know.

I've talked to GM twice regarding invoices submitted trying to explain what i had offered anyone. In both cases the people on the other line didn't seem to be real familiar(read sharp) with what the recall was all about.

I walked away with a feeling that GM won't cover reimbursements because it's not a similiar product, to which I agree, it's not a cheap piece of steel twine that all the truck makers have been forcing us to use.

Getting reimburst would be sweet.....but I'm just happy to have these fine straps on my truck and some piece of mind. There was no way I was puting those cables back on.-:t

I know a few guys have applied for reimbursement, I as of yet however haven't heard a yay or nay to this point. I'm hoping they do for those that bought the straps.

I wouldnt hold your breath for reimbursement as these are not GM "approved" items. Too be honest, I could care less as I feel much safer having my VRSTRAPS regardless of what they cost me.

Same here, the straps are worth it, recall or not. I take my lawn tractor on/off my truck w/o taking the tailgate off now. They work (and look) great.

I am not holding my breath either. HOWEVER, I sent in my reimbursement form along with a receipt from Rick. I got a call today from GM wanting more info about VR Stainless Straps. Since Rick is a buddy and I have his phone #, I called him and spoke with his better half, asking if I could give their phone# to GM for verification. So I did that. Still don't know if I will get reimbursed, should know soon. I did mention to them that there were a LOT of people who bought these in order to PREVENT the problems with the cables. Hopefully they will atleast reimburse for the value of the GM cables. The funny thing is......they send a reimbursement form but really nobody but Rick was selling an alternative to the factory straps. Was the reimbursement form ONLY for those who had failures and repairs? Doesn't make sense. Those people would have ALREADY contacted GM.

I never expected reimbursement, And would buy them again even with the new "improved" version available from GM. SPICER

I am more than happy with my VR Straps and could care less about the replacements from GM. If you do get something from GM that would be great though...

They work great and look great. The replacement straps...if they ever come will be going on the shelf. The VR Straps were the first mod I ordered for the truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif

GM called me yesterday. They said NO to reimbursement since the VR Straps are not what GM was replacing the defective straps with. DUHHHHH! When I bought the VR STRAPS it was a preventative step. And there were no "new/modified" straps on the market! I will call back and push it more. Atleast I want the replacement straps in my posession. I can use them on my utlity trailer.

I still wouldn't give up my VR Straps. SPICER

Well that really blows. We get stuck with a defective product. A good old fashion design comes out that is takes care of the issue. A recall is put into effect and the reimbursement is denied. GM should at least refund what a set of their cables cost to everyone since they don't have to provide them.

Everyone go grab your free set and put them on E-bay or something.

I called GM yesterday. The final ruling.....no to the VR Straps. I explained that I was aware of the problems with the factory straps and took a proactive action and replaced them. GM says that I did not replace them with the same strap that GM uses. I explained that it made no sense to go to the dealer and replace one set of defective straps for another. There was no updated strap at the time. Anyway, they will talk you in circles until you are dizzy enough to give up the fight.
I will still go to the dealer and ask for the new straps. I used the old ones on my tree hauling trailer to hold my ramp in place. They are getting pretty beat and could use a replacement. I told GM I wanted nothing more than the value of their replacement straps. Still no dice. Probably because they would be embarassed to send me a check for $1.25!!! No worries.............I will have new straps on my utility trailer and I will still have my cool VR Straps, looking good and keeping the tailgate off the trailer hitch! SPICER

Why couldn't you have someone write up a fake invoice for Gm part # xxxxxxx straps at the going retail price and submit that to GM? At least you would get part of the VR straps paid for and you would have the satisfaction of sticking it to the general.

Are you for reel? I was denied! Is this the difference between GMC and Chevy? Should be no different. Let me know if you get the check, then let me know who you went through to get the reimbursement. They should be consistent. SPICER

Well folks, I've got to tell ya, I'm just chomping at the bit waiting for my VR Straps to arrive in the mail. I could care less about a reimbursement as I will at least have the peace of mind knowing the my equipment, motorcycles, loads of lumber, etc., won't be depending on some cheap cables. It was an insult when GM offered me "Made in China" cables for my 2004 that I just traded...my new truck with have "THE STRAPS" for my $44,000+ truck. I'm not about to quibble over $65 when it comes to piece of mind...perhaps GM will take notice of the straps and start building them properly...we're not driving Toyotas, we're driving massive, American made trucks that are made to work - not look nice and have shiny beds all the time.:ro)

Lee,

Your straps were shipped on Monday so you should have them soon. As for reimbursement, one gets a nay, one gets a yay, go figure. Anyhow if they do decide to send out checks, let me know and I'll send out a PDF to your e-mail address that you can print and send in for payment. I've talked to the GM customer service several times over these but most seemed clueless to what was going on, or what I was talking about.

Yeah!! I just got my VR straps in the mail...installed them in less than 10 minutes....they should be standard on all GM trucks. These are fantastic and I highly recommend them to anyone who uses their truck like a truck is supposed to be used - hauling lots of heavy stuff. As for a GM reimbursement, to heck with them...I've got a superior product to the factory cables and $65 is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Nice job Victory Red!! These are fantastic!!!
