I am a newbie to forums of any kind and I have a question. I got my white '05 Sierra SLE 2500 HD CC SB 4x4 D/A on Friday December 3. This is the tightest truck that I have ever sat down in.:) The fit and finish are exceptional. There is no wind noise, no squeaks, and no rattles in the interior of the truck. Mileage for the first 850 miles has averaged 16 mpg (hand calculated, no DIC) in mixed driving.
The only problem is that this past saturday it developed a squeaking noise in the left front suspension. It can be heard when driving over speed bumps in parking lots or bumps in the road. If the truck is not moving and I turn the steering wheel I can also hear the noise. In this case it seems to be worse if the truck is in gear than it is if the truck is in park.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I trade an '02 Silverado 2500HD EC SB 4x4 D/A for this truck and so far the Sierra seems to be a far superior truck. I just want to find the source of the squeak. Any help is appreciated.

Far superior than your 02 HD? Not sure if they made any significant changes to warrant that comment. Unless you are referring to things other than drivetrain and frame/suspension.

Take it back to your dealers service dept. It's new. Let them worry about it.

I am referring to the fit and finish and overall tightness of the truck. The '02 had its share of loose fitting parts, squeaks and rattles. So, far the fuel mileage is a little better that my '02 which is a pleasant suprise from what I have read in this and other forums.

I'm not certain if the front suspension joints on these trucks are sealed. If not maybe one of the joints in the front end needs lubrication. Good luck, and congrats on the new truck! JJ :)

the above comment is understandable.. GMC and Chevy are the exact same truck but GMC does a few small things better, like refinement, interior noise, and overall appearance (personal opinion of course) etc..That's why GMC is a little more expensive than Chevy. I test drove both and noticed that GMC was quieter inside and some of the exterior/interior peices seemed more refined. I owned a chevy before as well and until I bought my GMC I had no idea the differences were that obvious. Not knocking Chevy as you can do anything to a Chevy that is done to a GMC. I just think that GMC is a small step above Chevy in detail.

sorry to hijack thread.. congrats on your new truck and if you are already hearing squeaking then take it back like someone said.

They are coming off the exact same assy line.... sometimes ones a GMC and the next is a Chevy.

No offence briano but I doubt that is the case. GMC doesn't do any more refining then Chevy. I get pretty deap into the dashes and other interior parts of both and there is no difference between the two.

I have no doubt, sorry guys didn't mean to start a debate here.. could just be the particular GM's I drove had issues and then I stereotype the rest. I know they both are off the same assy line which is why I could never understand why one just felt better than the other. Oh well..could just be my imagination

peace all

Maybe the GMC production line is a happier group who goes out and parties their asses off together on a regular basis and therefore their trucks are put together with more love and attention to detail? ):h Sorry, couldn't resist! :) JJ

One difference I've noticed between the two trucks is that the GMC is purterier.

MH, Briano, MP, txguppy and others posting on this thread, whether it is a GMC or a Chevy the "facts" are they are still some of the best built light duty diesel trucks on the road which would "figure" why we bought them in the first place! Facts and figures! ):h

Hoot is the only exception since he is a Dodge boy now. Hoot, that truck still running? ):h JJ :)

Well CowDoc, Guess you have the lowdown on which truck is the prettiest and all that heifer dust and horse hockey. Re the squeekin' in the front suspension. Still say take it back to the dealer and let them worry about where it is. Hell, you job is to drive it, not fix it.

So what are you saying? There's a seperate Chevy truck plant and a seperate GMC plant?

Maybe they run GMC's and Chrvys in lots now but I had photographs of the C/K trucks going down the line.... GMC and CHevy mixed

Chevy does have the better looking front end according to popular polls done between elections. geo

Point of interest: Build a Chevy to the same specs as, oh say, an "LS" GMC and it will cost $200-300 MORE than the GMC !!! It's all about what you want and what looks the best to you. I work for a Chevy dealer, but I drive a GMC.

Back to the question: Go to the dealer and have them grease the front suspension, most don't do it during the new vehicle inspection, but there is very little grease in there from manufacturing.

Ain't worried about what? Bullydog is doing well....I don't run stacked in the winter....I wanna be able to pull away from stop lights instead of sitting there like I am doing a drag race burnout.

Close, but no cigar- the Bulletin (NOT RECALL) only applies to trucks up to 2003, and the parts are NOT available- GM advises to lubricate it until a redesigned part is released.

Anyway, that was not the complaint... Cowdoc, says "... it developed a squeaking noise in the left front suspension..."

An intermediate shaft probably won't fix that concern.

I agree with you, my 2004 is way tighter than my 2000 was. I guess it is because of refinements made during the progression of this body style.

Anyways, this may be obvious, but have you checked to make sure everything in the frontend has grease in it (aka tie rods, ball joints, etc)?

After that, I say go around the truck with a spray can of white grease and spray parts one at a time. When/if you make the noise disappear you have found the source of your problem. Then you can find a more permanent fix from there....
