: Thinking about going to EFI Live, few q's
mdurbahn 11-18-2007, 11:58 PM I am thinking about converted to EFI Live. I have a few questions though. First off I have a 01 gmc lb7 so I assume that V1 would work ok for me? It is quite abit cheaper am I missing something or is the only difference the models it works on? Can you still have a switch with 2 tunes loaded with V1? Secondly, how good is the "tune library" that people trade around on here? Are there some good ho LB7 tunes floating around for a baseline, then I would load that and make little changes to it? Or do you pretty much start with your stock tune and make everything custom? I am wondering if I have enough time to do it and make some good power or if I would miss my plug in tuner and have a slow truck..
05 bullet 11-19-2007, 12:15 AM The difference between V1 and V2 is the the V2 has a hand held unit the is similar to a Tech 2 scan tool. Can have the switch for different tunes. Have not used any tunes from library been learning as I go but have had help from friends who have been tuning with EFI for over a year. use the tips and tricks thread it will help getting started.
I think if you by EFI from So Cal Diesel they will hook you up with a tow tune to start with. One thing i did learn the big companies don't change but 2 to 4 tables to make there power. If you do go with EFI another way to see what tables to change is go to the DSP program and will show 10 tables for you to mod these are the most important for power making for the engine.
It sounds more complex than it is

You will not be disappointed with purchasing EFI Live...There is alot of tuning help available...

Good choice...They provide excellent customer service...
EFI Support 11-19-2007, 06:11 AM The major differences between FlashScan V1 and FlashScan V2 other than supported vehicles is the standalone features (yet to be released on V2) and the licensing schemes.
FlashScan V1 requires a seperate license for each controller - so if you tune both your ECM and TCM you'll use both licenses that FlashScan V1 ships with. FlashScan V1 can hold a MAX of 25 licenses.
FlashScan V2 allows you to license an ECM and a TCM on a single license, which reduces the cost of tuning a combo. FlashScan V2 can hold up to 221 licenses, so also has greater capacity.
In the attached link you will find a document previously published detailing all of the differences between V1 and V2.

The features of FlashScan V2 when fully available will be comparable to the handheld your used to. Switchable tuning is available on LB7 on both FlashScan V1 and V2.
Cheers

IdahoRob 11-19-2007, 10:52 AM Most EFI venders here offer a free tune with purchase. Then you can ask questions here and slowly make changes and test.
You'll be happy you made the switch.
Twister773 11-19-2007, 02:21 PM Go with EFI, you wont be dissapointed...personally the way i look at it, it doesnt really matter who you buy from...as long as its a vendor...because people will share tunes with you. That being said, if you want a race tune and are into that kind of stuff go with McRat. If you want a GREAT tow tune, go with Guy(Trippin) at SoCal Diesel. And if you want a bunch of different ones...from mild to wild...go with vortecfar(DuramaxTuner)...no matter what you do you will be much happier:) good luck
blksmok 11-19-2007, 04:51 PM I've had several other "power adders" and I don't miss any of them.
mdurbahn 11-19-2007, 04:59 PM thanks for the info guys. i am pretty sure i will get this after i sort of my turbo
Eddysel 11-19-2007, 07:28 PM Not to hijack the thread but I see where some vendors offer a tow tune with turbine brake. Could someone explain how that works? Thanks

Works by closing off the vanes, kind of an exhaust brake using the vanes as the restriction. RPM can be varied to your needs. Only works on LLY's and LBZ's. New Dodge is doing this from the factory. I've had customers say it works, but not as good as an exhaust brake. I can feel it on my truck.
Eddysel 11-19-2007, 07:54 PM Thanks Rob,
I thought Dodge had an exhaust brake? You mean they are doing it the same way...with the VVT?

with this mod. how does it effect the drive pressure?
Eddysel 11-19-2007, 09:51 PM Are there pro's and con's to this tune?
IdahoRob 11-19-2007, 11:13 PM Thanks Rob,

Yes, that is my understanding.
with this mod. how does it effect the drive pressure? This is when there is no fueling and 0% throttle, so not much worry on heat or drive pressure affecting anything. I've watched boost and egt's and no worries at all.
Are there pro's and con's to this tune? Grade braking with the engine helping the tranny and brakes. I've tested and made tunes for customers using this. I feel it helps, but doesn't put you against the windshield or anything close.

Thanks Rob, neither does my brothers '07.5 6.7 Cummins...just sounds good with minimal braking effect. Thanks again.

Not to continue hijacking the thread but can you post the pid's for the grade brakeing in a new thread. I would love to check that out.
