: Hey fellow 6.5er's... how do you use DP?
knkreb 11-17-2007, 08:57 PM In an effort to improve what we are doing around here, and keeping in mind the overall organization of the forum, we were wondering how do most of the 6.5 crowd "uses" the forum.
What I mean is this: do you have the 6.5 forum bookmarked, and that's the only thing you go to? Or do you start out at the homepage forum index and go from there? Where else do you go? Anywhere else?
Just looking for a little feed back here as to what everyone does.
Vote in the poll, add comments in posts to help us understand and explain the other moderators on staff how our little world runs over here.
98BuickRegalgs 11-17-2007, 09:00 PM I mostly go in this section.
I used exterior and wheels a few times.
Sometimes I go on offtopic and sometimes I troll around on the multiple Duramax topics. I really want a Dmax someday but damn they say you are what you drive and a lot of those guys are elitists. I wouldnt want to drive a truck that makes me look like a prick:rolleyes:
teroma25 11-17-2007, 09:24 PM I spend most of my time here and a little in off topic. Those are the only 2 I think I've ever been in.
r85sub 11-17-2007, 09:45 PM I start at the home page. Then go to 6.5 forum. Then off topic. Then if I have time I look in other forums.
A. Bomb 11-17-2007, 10:19 PM How about a separate 6.5 for sale forum? Or is there one that I have yet to find.
coxpn2 11-17-2007, 10:25 PM Primarily visit the 6.5 forum...(Don't have it bookmarked, just go the main page and scroll down)
Visit the Maintenance/Fluids, Do It Yourself sections sometimes, although I can't ever seem to find anything in them...
bgittens 11-17-2007, 10:30 PM I have the 6.5 forum bookmarked. Sometimes troll over to off topic.
FWIW, I think the 4L80E forum is going to be a lot more useful now that it is a subforum. Another electrical subforum would be useful I think rather than folks pleading with mods not to move posts because they didn't get a response in the correct forum.
izyahdaddy 11-17-2007, 10:53 PM i have it bookmarked..I go to alot of different forims..6.5 ,suspension,4l80 and wheels and tires..this site has help me and save me lottsa$$$..i bought my truck about 3yrs ago and new nothing about the diesel design etc. i have to say thanx to all the help from everyone on the site..i have been able to do everyting to my truck myself when a problem has occured and learned alot about the 6.5 engine..Great site with some cool guys on here..thanx to everyone
cjwilliams72 11-17-2007, 11:00 PM home page, then 6.5 forum, then active topics .. I'm new so i haven,t had the chance to look all around. too many problems to figure out on the 6.5
Pruittx2 11-17-2007, 11:34 PM 6.5 forum is in one of my 5 tabs that open with Iexplore. So yeah everytime On open my browser,,, I see the 6.5 forum,,, and only 1 or 2 times a month,, I look around at the other topics,, like fuel and others
98VWTDI 11-17-2007, 11:42 PM Primarily visit the 6.5 forum...(Don't have it bookmarked, just go the main page and scroll down)
Visit the Maintenance/Fluids, Do It Yourself sections sometimes, although I can't ever seem to find anything in them... X2 ....
chrisk1500 11-18-2007, 08:55 AM I use the main page and then scroll down to the 6.5 section....if I have time I like to read in the competition/bench racing sections.
Binky 11-18-2007, 09:21 AM Hi all,
I start here at the 6.5 forum and then go elsewhere if I have time or need to. I am relatively new and don't post all that much compared to some, but occasionaly I've had a post moved, even though I was really trying to get specific advice for the 6.5.
For instance I went to the Driveline forum to ask a brake question. Now it is specific to my 6.5, but I was afraid the post would get moved if I posted it here.
I guess I wished we could have more subforums under the 6.5 so we could help each other without bing confused by the Duramax crowd.
Thanks
x2 for the usefulness of subforums, and I really appreciate your hard work to make the information flow together better.
No offense to the Duramax guys):h, but their posts dominate the other forums (i.e. exterior, electrical, interior, etc.). Thus, when I need electrical info on a 6.5L, I will usually search the 6.5L forum, and not the Electrical forum; there is just too much information not pertinent to my 6.5L in the other forums.
I have the 6.5 forum bookmarked. Sometimes troll over to off topic.
...Another electrical subforum would be useful I think rather than folks pleading with mods not to move posts because they didn't get a response in the correct forum.
TedReminder 11-18-2007, 11:00 AM Main page is bookmarked. 6.5 areas and market place get the most use. I look at the other areas for interesting stuff, fluids, driveline, etc.
Ted
jackb 11-18-2007, 11:29 AM The Diesel Place homepage is what my bookmark is for in Firefox, but I always scroll down straight to the 6.5 section, I don't go to the other sections often at all. I think I will edit my bookmark to go straight to the 6.5 section.
89SWB 11-18-2007, 11:33 AM I'm almost 100% in the 6.5 forum, but head into marketplace and fluids (biodiesel investigation).
jmiller 11-19-2007, 10:33 AM Owning a 6.5, I typically look at the 6.5 forum. I have looked at the recent posts search several times which looks at all forums. Have seen several thing of interest there. Like pulling with a 6.5 in sled pulling.
A cool search might be a preset cross forum by engine type. (like 6.2, 6.5, LB7, LLY etc in post title or post text.
Dieseldad97 11-19-2007, 06:10 PM I start with the 6.5 forum, then head into the active topics. After that, I'm all over the place. Depends alot what mood I'm in.
Thanks for remembering us 6.5 guys. With as many D-max owners on this site, we are the underdogs here.
Matt Bachand 11-19-2007, 06:31 PM Hi all,

I bookmark 6.5 engine. I also have things moved, last one was wondering if anyone runs 0w-30 synthetic Mobil 1 in their 6.5. Now, this question is 100% 6.5 specific, yet it was moved. I never followed up on it since it was moved.
Since reading this thread, I might check out off-topic cuz peeps seem to visit it often, up till now, never knew it existed. I read this site everynight, but only 6.5 forum.
Great site btw, great job keeping it up to par, and i'm quite addicted.
minisub 11-19-2007, 08:15 PM I almost never see the homepage.
I go straight to my subscriptions when I hit the site.
Done with those, I select "Active Topics>Since Last Visit" and scroll through quickly. I look for interesting topics or thread starters/last posters that I know might have an interesting post.
I rarely go to specific forums unless I have an issue to research or an old post to find.
When I am really bored, I will do a search on certain other members to find their posts and see what they've been up to.
Cool thread, I have often wondered how other members actually use/navigate this place.
matuva 11-19-2007, 08:25 PM Direct to 6.5 forum - bookmarked. To the others if I have specific question, sometimes, but mostly use the 6.5 forum as I not often get replies from others anyway
mamzerook 11-19-2007, 09:25 PM I also hit the dually, well I actually read alot in most forums here
s_abercromby 11-19-2007, 10:35 PM I also think there should be subforums like exterior, electrical, engine, transmission...etc. there have been more than a few frustrating occasions where i have needed electrical or wheel and tire info, and i had to look in both the 6.5L and the specific forum for the right info. you also can't post similar threads in different forums (admin had to close one of my threads before), and most of the guys who have the information you are looking for float around the 6.5L forum a huge percentage of the time (according to the poll), so you get the right info a lot quicker, posting in the 6.5L. That is the only real change that i would like to see, other than that this site is awsome:D.
oh ya and i think another good option would be to have a way to organize the garage so you can choose the specific truck generation or engine, because i like to look at the different things other people have done to their trucks, and there are only a handful of 6.5L among the thousands of duramax's. so it can feel like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

I agree with all points above. Especially the subforum idea about the electrical, interior and exterior, no one ever answers where the post belongs because all of the guys with my style truck are here.
CanadianRigger 11-19-2007, 11:14 PM 6.5 forum, period........ check out the vids once in a blue moon, maybe drop in on chat if anyones in there, but if i dont' see any 6.5 er's i'm gone.
nickg 11-19-2007, 11:52 PM You mean there are other sections????? I guess I should leave the 6.5 section once in awhile. But seriously most responses happen here and if you post in the other subsections they dont even get looked at...well maybe they do I dont know for sure cause I only haunt this section
jmiller 11-20-2007, 09:12 AM But seriously most responses happen here and if you post in the other subsections they dont even get looked at...well maybe they do I dont know for sure cause I only haunt this section
This is one reason I started to look at active topics. You can get a view of all forums there and look at items that are interesting or apear to be 6.5 related.
Matt C 11-20-2007, 01:31 PM Diesel Place home page is set as my home page so thats where I start. Then I use my DP toolbar with firefox to go to 6.5, then 6.2, then Off topic. Thats pretty much it unless im bored.
lcgarage 11-30-2007, 06:11 AM I usually go to new post and scan through. I always find some interesting stuff...then I go to 6.5L engine, and end with 4L80E trans.
You know what I would love to see it a Diagnostic Check List for the 4L80E....just like you did for the 6.5L...or make it part of engine check list since so many 4L80E problems really have nothing to do with transmission.
My new years resolution is to STOP reading the news and just read the Diesel Page (and the other one) or only auto forums!
knkreb 11-30-2007, 06:33 AM To tell ya the truth, I would like to come up with one... but I'm a bit under-knowledged on the 4L80E. One could be done with some chipping in from some the folks on here. Let's see what we can come up with. Let's see what we can do in that department.
I go straight to the 6.5, then on to Fluids and Maintenance, then maybe to truck uses to see some carnage. As a 6.5er, it's rare that one will get a response to a drivetrain, tranny, electrical, suspension....question if it's not in the 6.5 forum. BTW, whatever happened to the 6.5 Marketplace idear? or at least a trading post. Also, I'd like thanks the main 6.5 moderators for their awesome job and the many prolific pro 6.5ers who post here.
instarx 11-30-2007, 11:37 AM x2 for the usefulness of subforums, and I really appreciate your hard work to make the information flow together better.

This is an excellent point. Almost all the other forums are dominated by dmx people. 6.5 people generally have older vehicles and it is more useful to ask some questions here than where they are technically supposed to be asked. In many of the other forums you can ask a question and never get a reply. I tend to think of the 6.5L forum as the 6.5L vehicle forum rather than the 6.5L engine forum.

A 6.5 vehicle forum may be the way to go.
I've started using a windows smart phone to keep up on 6.5 issues. (thanks to work) there's a few bugs but it works pretty good.
DieselTahoe 11-30-2007, 04:32 PM I don't know if it has been said yet but how about sub forums for the categories built into the 6.5 forum like the 4l80e forum is not and only let the 6.5 guys use it so the dmax guys have there own forums.
Ryan
knkreb 11-30-2007, 10:45 PM Keep your ideas and thoughts coming. We all value your ideas about improvement of the forum. I have seen, and you all have proven through your answers and the above poll how you all use the forum. I think now that the other Duramax staff guys see this, they may understand our little world a bit better.
s_abercromby 12-01-2007, 03:26 PM i'm kinda curious to here from an admin about what their thoughts are, if they agree that we should have our own subforums, and if they are actually willing to do that for us, or is this just kind of wishful thinking. To be honest i'm not sure who even controls those decisions. but i just know from other experiences in every day life that usually big changes don't happen and if they do it takes forever and the changes aren't very drastic. But by the sounds of it we have a lot of 6.5ers here on the same page with the way they would like to use this site, so i think we have a good chance to make a size able impression on the people who control how this site operates
Dmax Tim 12-02-2007, 04:58 AM guys, what is a 6.5?
knkreb 12-02-2007, 06:36 AM guys, what is a 6.5?
We have an intruder... man the battle stations....
Dieseldad97 12-02-2007, 07:45 AM guys, what is a 6.5?
My I.Q. for owning one lol
instarx 12-02-2007, 08:51 AM 6.5, hmmm. How many of our trucks we can buy for one Dmax?
restoguy 12-02-2007, 09:52 PM I spend 99% of my time on the 6.5L threads. Once in a while I might search through the Dmax stuff for a friend. I would like to suggest, as some already have, the you have a seperate 6.5 sale section. I almost never look at classifides here, and when I do it only last a few seconds before I become tired of sorting through all the Dmax parts that I can't use. Just my $.02
Navek 12-02-2007, 11:44 PM Book marked and auto sign-in...then click on 6.5.
bowtie 12-03-2007, 06:24 AM We have an intruder... man the battle stations....
OK Which one of you guys left the door unlocked? We have to be more carefull or his friend(if he has any) will follow him n here.
:D
