: Transfer case bracket?

I was reading a magazine and saw a transfer case bracket from Sun Coast Converters that is supposed to help keep the transmission rear adapter housing from cracking. Is this item worth buying, and more importantly, is this even a real issue. I didn't know if this is something that is some-what of a problem or just another after market part to have that really doesn't help anything. It is for the Allison trans. part no. K1000-TCB, from suncoastdiesel.com. Any input I would appreciate, and thanks. Also, does anyone know where I can buy a Allison deep pan for my LCT 1000?

I think they work. I will bet that if you crack your housing you will buy one for insurance. :D

Think there a few here wish they had one before the damage.

All I know is once you hear your U-Joints making that clunk noise, you damn well better get'em changed.

I'm king of the procrastinators and its bit my ass twice! The stealer was happy to replace my housing for $2100.00 -:t Live and learn I guess.

I'd definitely get the bracket.

If you pull heavy or race with your d-max it's worth it.

U-joints are more to blame than anything for cracking housings....for the cost of the bracket the insurance is worth it.

Seems like a hit-and-miss thing. Some guys have problems with cracking at what would seem to be rather low loads. I've pulled competitively for 2 years without one, no problems whatsoever.

That being said, having one can't possibly hurt!

I go offroad some but don't pull or drag race, and my reasoning was......spend several thousand making the transmission bulletproof, it's false economy to not spend the couple hundred more and know that everything is covered.

I remember having a conversation with the late Joe Webb from Suncoast about this. We did not like the fact that the transfercase just hung there with no support whatsoever. Joe and Ron at SC designed this simple brace as an easy bolt on. Does it work? It's better than what was there before; nothing. :D

Mike L. installed mine! If your thinking about this now, you will be thinking about it forever..........until something happens. Good insurance!

Just got the answer to the below question. I called the company and they indicated that for 2008 models GM upgraded the transfer case design and that these brackets are not needed, nor will their bracket fit the 2008 models.

Are these brackets need for the 2008 models? If so are they available and if so what is the part number?
