I want to take off all the stickers and emblems on my truck. It is black and I think it would look much better w/o the red silver and gold.
Just curious as to what might be the best way to do this, and if anyone may have any tips or pointers. How do you get the door molding off?
Thanks ahead.

I waited for a sunny day and heated them up a bit with the wife's hair dryer. Start pulling on a warm corner and keep working the hairdryer out in front a couple of inches. Came right off. I have also heard others warming up the tape and using fishing line to 'saw' them off the truck. Either way will probably work fine.

I used a heat gun which made it easer to peal off, but dont heat it up too much. also it still left the stick stuff from the tape i used googone to get it off Also depending on how long you have had them on you might need to give it a good buffing.

I used a heat gun and warmed them just a bit and had no resedue left at all. Also pulled the stock moldings that way and replaced with the GMC ones.

05LLY,
All the above work great, I would only add get the edge up and run some dental floss underneath and then slowly run it along underneath. I found that if you try and work the emblem off to fast it breaks then you are stuck trying to get another edge up. To remove the remaining adhesive on the paint, I highly recommend that you get 3M's adhesive remover that body shops use(Petroleum Naptha). It cleans it up very nice and will not hurt paint. Immediately put a coat of wax on the area and you are good to go. I removed all my emblems and the front fender extensions the day I got the truck.

All those work great, just do it soon, black fades, and the new paint underneath is sometimes noticable, check out mine , its white though. Pics in Sig

Save a little money on the 3M remover. Petroleum naptha is also lighter fluid and charcoal lighter fluid. Worked just fine on my removal.

Ok, used heat gun and took off everything including the molding. Was real easy. Truck looks much better now. Can't figure out how to post a pic on here.
Thanks for all the help and advice guys.

Just my opinion here but I think in the long run you will be sorry you took off the moldings. Taking off the emblems is one thing, but you take of the moldings and you are in for tons of door dings... Just be careful where you park from now on... Good luck..

GMC2500HD,
Very good point.

However I never under any circumstance park anywhere close to another car, Rain, sleet or snow. I always drop my wife and daughters up by the door and head out to the north forty to park. I am one that likes to walk to where ever I am going from the lot I just parked in. The exercise while do you good. To many times I see people try and find a spot right up by the door, cram in them, then come out and get all riled up when someone door dinged them...I am like "HELLO...would have taken a shoe horn to get you out. "Heck did you climb out your sliding rear window or what?" I think alot of people ask for door dings. Here in California they do not make parking lots with standard size spaces anymore...everything says compact...so I COMPACT my CC LB DRW truck into 2 or 3 of the spots out away from the riff/raff:D . I have had my truck for over 3 years now and have not suffered any such events.

My .02 cents

Jeff

A little common sense goes a long way. ;) I do the same thing DD. Although it around Christmas time it is hard to find ANY parking spot. In some cases I will wait in the truck while she shops just to be on the safe side. :) That and I HATE shopping.

Funny thing is, I live in CA, drive the truck to school, mall, dinner, etc. The truck IS de-badged completely and I have yet to find a door ding. ):h wonder what it could be......come to think of it that could be why my frame is so scratched up!

just playin, my truck isn't THAT high....yet. It is a much cleaner look, especially for the poor chevy boys who not only get the thick molding, but when its not color matched.......its a shame. If ya like the look then go for ti and be ready to handle the consequences.

I took my door protectos off and after close to a year there was some water trapped behind it and a bit of dirt. paint wasnt faded but it did take a bit of buffing to remove the fine scratches in the clear coat. It looks better IMO and those stick on moldings are a future breeding ground for nasties.

I used a warm day/hair dryer method and 3m adhisave remover. I used a peice of fishing line to get under the edge and peeled it off. Also removed the LS emblems but left the 2500HD and Duramax emblems(and added a Dmax emblem to the rear.

Well I am that same type of person. I will park in the lot WAY OUT AWAY FROM EVERYONE and trust me, when I come out there will be cars all around my truck. Not sure why it happens, it just does.. You would think that people would want to park close and get a nice spot, but I think they just look for expensive vehicles to park next to around here. Guess some people are just strange...

The 4x4 stickers are quite easy to remove with just your fingernail.

The SLE, SLT, LS, whatever on the side pillars are easy with just your fingers as well.

GMC2500HD,
Boy isn't that the truth. I can park so far away it takes a pack mule and 2 days rations to get me to the shopping area and I can come out and some A$$ clown has parked his car right next to mine..... Censored. There could be 5 million empty spots but Nooooooooo. Ya just want to sit and wait for the owner to come out so you can ask them "So why did you have to park right next to me?????"
