Has anyone had any experience with this tq?? They have a rebuild kit for $1,900 shipped.. Here is the link http://www.transmissioncenter.net/Allison1000.htm

This is what they say about rebuild kit

"With this kit you get everything needed to upgrade your transmission to handle 600 horse power and 1000 foot pounds of torque. You get the #A1000 torque converter with the oversize clutch, the #1000 Transgo Shift Kit with all of its upgrades, the deep cast aluminum pan that holds 3 1/4 extra quarts of fluid and our Alto Master Rebuild Kit with Red Eagle clutches and steels in all 5 clutch sets plus both internal and external filters. The freight is included in the price. Cost $1900.00 "

Here is the info on the tq

"Super Heavy Duty Billet torque converter for the Allison 1000 transmission. This converter comes with a larger clutch than the stock converter. Good for heavy towing and motor homes. Also has all bearing and welded construction. Rated at 600 horse power and 1000 torque. Cost, Gas or Diesel $695.00"

What do you think about this, or should I go with a suncoast tq??

Thanks-

To be very honest.........

There are three proven choices out at this time

Suncoast, ATS, TTS/Transgo

These companies are proven for customer service, quality and ability to hold the HP/TQ

I would look carefully before purchasing.

I'll bet the converter is an 8.1 with cut stator (get ready to lose low end big time). As far as oversize clutch; the piston only has so much surface to glue a clutch to. Its like having a 9X9 room and installing 10X10 carpet; yes you have oversize carpet, but the carpet on the walls is not usable.):h The Alto clutches they sell are not as good as the B/W factory clutches in my experience. The Raybestos clutches are excelent but overpriced on his site. The only overhaul kit I would ever use is from Allison; there is no substitute and its cheaper believe it or not. 600 hp and 1000 tq; which is it? #s don't match together. Am I wrong? Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!! I think I am going to go with a stage 3 suncoast kit.. I hope this will be enough to get me by.. I don't tow, but I like light to light racing and my stock tranny cant take much more, I have put it into limp mode twice now and I need to fix this..

My truck is an '02 crew cab short box. I have hot juice, a power programmer. AFE stage 2 intake and straight pipe 4" exhaust. I am thinking about new injectors and possibly nitrous. And I will toss a new turbo on it whenever they become available from ATS.. I installed the Bullydog shift enhancer and it seems to be worthless,, I hadn't put it in limp mode until I installed it!! Do you think the stage 3 suncoast kit will be sufficient???

Thanks again-

I have not limped mine and Diesel Power ran the heck out of his truck for a year with an Xtreme with a TTS single Disk, Transgo kit and stock clutches......

The SC-III kit with a Triple Lock converter will be fine.......

Suncoast III is holding massive amounts of power and they are a very good choice to go with.

Ratlover, Are you talking about the suncoast III kit?? Because that was the last reply I posted in this thread. The cheap tq was just a simple inquiry, and that question had already been answered. I would never just toss an unproven product on my truck, that's why I asked.

Thanks- Morphs AKA Rat killer (I breed snakes):D

I woulda put the III in the first time around. Its not much more money really. Compared to doing it twice.

I'd say run it, your gonna have to pull it to upgrade or to fix it..

I was comenting on buying the kit you mentioned. Just being my usual smart ass self.

Your going to have to get a trans upgrade and some more power if you plan on killing many rats;) ):h (its a BBC reference not of fuzzy little disease spreading tailed rodent reference;) )

Fred, Are you asking about the Suncoast Stage II ? If so I blew my stage II several months ago at the track. I dynoed 494hp at 933lbs torque one day and blew the transmission the next day. Suncoast Stage II was not designed for 500hp.
If I were you I would upgrade ASAP. It's expensive, but I would save my good tranny instead of sending it back for a core, bite the bullit and purchase an ultimate built tranny. You could probably use your old Suncoast converter.

Its only money ! Your wife/and or kids will spend it otherwise.

if you realy want holding power and adjustability go with the ATS co-pilot and converter kit. it also replaces your C1-C3 clutches.

wow i must be close than, getting ready to put propane and nitrous, water injection, talked with joe on this, he stated that 500rwhp it should stand, did not think 600 was possible from his testing, also said he was waiting on some new stuff on the stage three, that would make it a bit better than it is, so i told him i will wait it out before upgrading, so far tranny is holding up good, one day pulling i heard a bit of a different noise pulling on the high hp in 5th, but only one time

35k truck....... over 1k in programs...... over 3k for a new turbo..... 1k for 'extra' help (NOs) and you're asking about an unknown trans upgrade?

Just some advice. Go to SunCoast and get a Stage V or at least a Stage IV and be done with it. If you do want the co-pilot later...er... void your warrenty and stick it in the SunCoast. Everything the engine dishes out and everything that resists movement will be dictated by the transmission, they key link.

If you "don't" want to spend more money, whole lot more, later..... get the best transmission you can find ...... now. There is nothing worse than having your truck decked out with injectors, lift pump, fuel pick up, intake kit, NOs, exhaust mods, programs, dyno time, race tires, suspension mods, a new turbo and ..... a crappy trans. All for not.........
