Are the diffs in a 2500HD the same as in a 3500? If the ring gear isn't bigger/thicker or the bearings heavier, why would I want to trade up to a 3500 from my 2500HD? The sales rep said the diffs were bigger in addition to a heavier suspension on the 3500.

nah, just steel wheels, 265's, stiffer suspension (extra leaf/helper iirc)

same dif's anyway

The Gas 6L 2500HD's come with the 14 bolt 10.5" ring gear rear end. The Diesel's in 2500 and 3500 come with 14 bolt 11.5" ring gear. You will probable not break either one but the 14b/10.5" has been around for years and has many options of carriers and gears and has proven itself over time. The 14b/11.5" is tough but has limited options when it comes to carriers and gears.

The 3500 DRW rear end looks a helluva lot bigger, not sure about the SRW.

Gentlemen, Thanx for your replies. I'll stick with my 2500HD for a while. I'm pulling a 8300lb trailer and will likely do so for a couple of more years. If I decide to move up to a 5 wheel I will have to take a look at the 3500 then. Dennis

The differential itself is the same, but I believe you will find the 3500 has bigger axle housings.

Collector is right. Look in the factory manual(s). Or Randy's R&P
