: 1-1/2 DIN to Double DIN Revisited
Has anyone had any experience doing this on a 99-02? I have read this post and even tried to PM the originator: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114989&highlight=02+double+din
but have not yet heard from them. Does anyone know of anyone that has done this yet? I have been to avic411 as well and saw one person that was a master with fabrication (way over my head) that did it with the '02 bezel. I am thinking of going with the '03 bezel and mounting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use a newer gm double din dash kit and file the top and bottom of bezel.
File the top and bottom of the '02 bezel?
Dan Brown 11-26-2007, 02:54 PM ttt, I'm interested in doing this as well....

yep ive done it several times looks great everytime. Just take your time, and a fine file. I have a double din eclipse avn 6610 in mine and its a single din opening that was hard.
huthuthut 12-04-2007, 12:58 AM Or buy the correct bezel and the correct in dash support brackets so its all factory. Thats what I did and it looks legit, not with stuff filed down and raw plastic edges.
Diesel Dually 12-04-2007, 01:04 AM Pre '03 Rigs have some differences...it is not as simple as buying the correct bezel and in dash support brackets.

Thanks, I will get to work on this after the holidays and will post pics of the process.

What do you mean? I did it in my 00 tahoe. 03+ dash bezel and radio bucket brackets. Drill out rivets and re rivet new brackets in.
What did you do about the A/C controls. The 03 and 00-02 are quite different in size, the 03 is taller and not as wide.
huthuthut 12-04-2007, 11:31 AM Right now I have 03+ controls in the dash and my originals moved to the glovebox, but Im going to figure out how to make the new controls work.

heh, heh, I guess we have to compromise somewhere. I have heard and read that you can't get the 03 A/C controls to work on our gen. If you do get it working please post how you did it as I believe that would look the best.
There was one person on avic411.com that did a fabulous job on his 99 Sierra, but that was much more involved than I wanted to get. I have an extra '02 bezel here and will give his mod a try I guess.
Here is the link to his work. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/825435/2
Appreciate all the input.
huthuthut 12-04-2007, 12:55 PM Other option is to cut eveyrthing out in there then lay some fiberglass and throw in a 10" screen or so.

I like to use my AC...not to open up the glove box to work them...to my your solutiuon is not acceptable...I repeat..to me this solution is not acceptable, and that, my friend, is why, it is not as easy as ripping out the buckets and using an 03+ bezel.
huthuthut 12-04-2007, 01:12 PM Then get out the fiberglass and make it how you want it. Dont like something about the factory? Change it!
Make a cover plate and mount it in your lower console - seen it many times and looks factory.
Make a mounting plate and put it in your center console storage area.
Disassemble the controls drill holes in your dash and put the 2 knobs and buttons in individually.
Relocate it to your overhead console (using factory suburban overhead console with rear air controls) and swap front controller into opening and mount.
Relocated to under drivers seat.
Theres 5 ideas - all work and seen them all done.

Now that sounds like a good project. I am going to research that one. In the meanwhile, I think I am going to try to follow that guy that mounted it with the modification.
Thanks for the ideas!:D
Mauro 12-04-2007, 03:24 PM I'm going to be doing the dash swap on my 01 Tahoe so I can fit a D3 in.....what I've read on other forums is you can get the AC controls to fit with a pair of 2" long shims (3/4"X3/4") on either side of the controls to make the older controls work in the newer bracket.....I'll try and find some pics....
huthuthut 12-04-2007, 04:00 PM sup Mauro its matt. Ya shims look good

Remind me which option is as easy as starting out with an '03+ ;)
Relax, there is no need to argue...you proved my point. None of these options is as easy as starting with an '03+ truck...and are required if you use an '01-'02 and transplant and '03+ bucket and bezel. There are many here searching for information...and you must share all the information so they can make the right decision for them.
