Recently my truck has been acting weird. It is really hard to get into gear (you gotta ram it pretty hard to do it) and when shifting it is also hard. Sometimes when at a stop with it in gear it is like the clutch is partially engaged as it wants to creap ahead. Just wondering what could cause this and what the easiest fix would be. Thanx.

It sounds like the clutch is not disengaging all the way. Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. It could be a problem in the master or slave cylinder. There is no clutch adjustment.

how would i determine the exact problem with the clutch, other than bringing it to a technician. Kinda looking for the cheap way out. thanks.

I've experienced similiar and I am prepairing to install a new race for the throwout bearing. I dropped the tranny before but this time the motor's coming out of the way. This cost less than $30 Usd.

DF Is your slave cylinder on the out side of the tranny ? if so check from master down the lines to the slave for leaks. Brake peddle spongy ? ( Air in the lines) Any noise coming from clutch ?

I would look just where QM is showing, That part is exactly what caused my problems like you described. My got so bad I was blowing clutch M/C apart, spliting them down the seam on the bottom, and thats what caused the engine fire my truck had before I bought it, the brake fluid spraing out under pressure in a fine mist on hot exhaust.

The truck does have some brake issues as well. Spongy at times and on ice it seems to want to lock one wheel up all the time unless u really feather the brakes.

Also when pushing the clutch pedal in sometimes there is kinda a whurring noise.

Check your rear axle seals for the sticky braking problem.

Bow,
I've blown at least a dozen gm master's in the '93. The solution for me was to put a steel body unit off a 2ton truck. It only helped me to gouge the race deeper but the new master has never faltered just got so stiff you couldn't push it in anymore.

Well the part shown earlier this post was the problem for me and would have fixed everything if I had found it sooner.

I had a shifting problem years ago on my 92. I found that the shifting fork ball had worn enough to let the fork hit on the bell housing and that would change the pivot point and but excess pressure on the clutch master cylinder and less movement of the thouout bearing.

Well they found the shift fork and ball worn on mine to but that happens with use I guess. The front bearing retainer(see earlier posted picture) for the transmission was binding my throw out bearing up when the chutch was engaged, worse when hot. Glad they found that on mine cause I was fixin to be sorry I'd bought my truck till then.

Where exactly is the slave cylinder on these trucks? Sorry, i'm kinda dumb when it comes to transmissions. Thanks.

I am experiencing the same problem on my '98. Ther appears to be no slave cylinder but a hydraulic throwout bearing instead.

98's have the slave cylinder that is part of the throwout bearing. Drop tranny to replace:( Better be prepared for a clutch while you are at it.:grd:
