I foun a great deal on an ATS turbo kit for my 6.2 but the turbo is bad and needs to be rebuilt. Does any one know were I can get a rebuild kit for it? or can I use a Banks or GM turbo with the ATS kit ? Thanks for the help.

I've got an ATS setup on my (non-running) Dually. I agree that it's not an ideal setup in that it makes the right side of the engine bay virtually unservicable (like...I don't know how I could do a compression test on that side).

However, I'm interested in this topic too since I have this turbo and it looks like the compressor side blades are all chewed up. If I find anything out (I haven't been looking yet) I'll post here...but you'll likely find out first, so please be sure to let us know what you do find out.

Is ATS still in business or around? I assume (but could very possibly be very wrong) that they sourced the turbo from another turbo producer...it might be off the shelf stuff for other typical applications. Anybody know?

Let's all please remember, the OP asked about where to find a rebuild kit...not if he should rebuild it or let a shop do it.

Thanks,
Clem

What I have fond so far is that airreasearch the origanl ATS producer of ATS turbos was bought by Garet so you should be able to get a kit from them but I have heard that they are not the best to deal with. I talked to a turbo shop and they said my best bet would be to get the hole inside new so it is together and balanced for around 300 to 500 depending on the turbo its self.
Ill let you know if i find out more.

aire research was bought by garrett who was bought by allied signal, who was bought by turbonetics, who i'm unsure of now...

You need a "cartridge" Every thing that moves is on/in the cartridge. press old out, press new in. Piece of cake for a turbo rebuilder.

I have looked on ebay and found sevral new turbos for less then that with the correct mounting flange but I know nothing about turbos so I dont know how to tell if they would be big enough to use so now Im trying to find out if I can use one of the ebay turbos to replace this one with.

sorry about being off topic, but does anyone know if the ats turbo is better than the banks?

6 to one, is a half dozen to another.... IMO the ATS kit is a PITA to work on.

depends on witch ATS the newer ATS turbos were almost the same setup as the banks. The older one that Im using id a PITA but it has its advantages for what i want its going in a 68 chevy and I like that the air cleaner stays on the top of the engine I dont have to move batteries around to make room for air cleaners if you plan on getting any big power go with a banks or a gm turbo its much easier to add power with choice of turbos is better and adding an intercooler is easier it is almost imposible with the ats set up Im using.
I have even thought abought using the ATS air box or what ever its called and a GM turbo and manifold. but I dont know if it would work I need both here to see and I dont know if I want to buy to turbo set ups and then find out i can use one of them at all.

all you need is a new cartridge. The center section is made by Garret (AirResearch) Your exhaust and compressor housings should be good to go. Believe the center section actually came off a TO4 turbo off a Detroit. Maybe there is a tag on it.

I'm interested in finding out more about the ATS kit. Does anybody know difinitively if the T04 (is that with a zero...yes?) was used for the ATS kits?

I've got one and may be removing it (at the very least, the compressor turbine is all chewed up)...but might like to use it down the line at some point.

Thanks,
Clem
