: I think I may have found my new truck!
Veggieburninburban 11-13-2007, 10:06 AM I just found this listing in the local online classifieds:
2002 chevy duramax diesel high miles, runs perfect, air bags so you can haul more weight, 6" banks exhaust system, edge chip, leather, power everything, bed liner, this thing is loaded with everything you want on a truck.
It was listed for only $15k. I called to ask about it (and see why they only wanted $15k). It's not listed, but it's a 4x4 Crew Cab. I asked why their price was so low. It has 230K miles on it and the stealership said that it needs new injectors (even though it still runs great, according to the owner). He e-mailed me pictures, and it is in good shape, bodywise.
Assuming it does need new injectors, would this still be a good deal?
Dave50mod 11-13-2007, 10:12 AM IMO if u can get GM to put the inj in its not bad a little high IMO for a 02
maxheadroom 11-13-2007, 10:14 AM GM only warranties the injectors for 200k
JIMDMAX 11-13-2007, 10:19 AM thats a lot of miles but there are not a lot of $15k 4x4s dmaxes out there.
Veggieburninburban 11-13-2007, 11:46 AM thats a lot of miles but there are not a lot of $15k 4x4s dmaxes out there.
That's what I was thinking, and I want a 4x4 CC to boot.
How much is it going to run me to have new injectors installed?
Veggieburninburban 11-13-2007, 11:47 AM Going another route, how much would just the injectors cost?
I am not familiar with Dmax's, but I seem to recall someone telling me that changing the injectors is no small feat. Something about removing the heads to do it?
nosliw 11-13-2007, 11:54 AM on the LB7s you're better off having a competent shop do the work. call around and get some estimates on cost per injector, for all 8, ect...
still worth it for $15K imo. 8 new injectors and make sure all the fluids are new and it's like a new truck.
bubbadiddit 11-13-2007, 11:56 AM but I may be about to purchase a buddy's truck. He is the original purchaser of an 02 2500 crew 4x4, lb7, all stock, less than 90,000 miles and he has taken superb care of the truck. It's been meticulously serviced and detailed. I don't believe he's had ANY problems, but if I buy it and an injector does go out, would the 7/200,000 warranty transfer over to me? BTW, I may be able to get this one for around $15,000 which I think is pretty good considering the condition of the truck. Anyway, what about the warranty?.....

Heads don't come off, just the valve covers. Check out this thread;

Might not be a bad idea to check into the condition of the tranny. If it's been towing enough extra weight to need air bags, hopefully it wasn't done on the higher settings of the Edge module.
mcmoyer 11-13-2007, 12:31 PM It seems like everyone wants a 4x4. I've got mine listed on cars.com and I get a ton of calls on it, but everyone just assumes it's a 4x4. So we get to that little detail and they're no longer interested. Bummer! :thumbsdow

How much are you asking for yours anyway?

What would you suggest to check the condition of the tranny other than smelling the fluid and feeling for slippage during the test-drive?
I know it's not ideal to buy someone else's used up toy, but when I can't afford a toy like it otherwise, I might be willing to "settle" for this one!

$18,500.
maxheadroom 11-13-2007, 03:28 PM I would highly suggest that you ( if you buy it ) purchase a new cover for the pump in the transfer case. Get it from Eric @ M/A. Make sure to check and see if there is any oil in the t- case. Read some info on "pump rub." Just grab some cold beer and start reading. :)
Nathan Muthler 11-13-2007, 05:23 PM If the trucks in good shape and shifts and runs good I would buy it. Ive seen plenty with well over 400 thousand on them. Im at 355000 now on the original tranny.
OddOne 11-13-2007, 05:59 PM Can not tell from the add if it is a dealer or private owner. If it is at a dealer, I would try to get them to split the cost of new injectors and put it in writing. At around $4500 to replace them, you would probably have a little more in it than it is worth. With those mods, the guy probably played or definately used it...ie..extra wear. Look it over REAL good. Ultimately your choice, but for an extra 5-6k you could have something with alot less miles and less wear. It could also be newer which would mean a lower interest rate and your payment will probably end up being about the same as that one. But that is just my opinion. Good Luck
Veggieburninburban 11-14-2007, 04:16 PM Yeah, I'm gonna pass on this one. Too many miles with too many mods. Besides, it looks like my 6.5 needs to be rebuilt now, so I'm not going to have any spare cash for a little while.
Veggieburninburban 11-14-2007, 05:06 PM If anyone else is interested, I can pass on the info. It's in Brigham City, Utah, north of Salt Lake City about 60 miles.
