I recently rode in my friends 6.0L powerstroke with the banks six gun installed. It was the first time he drove the truck after installing the kit, and he had to go through series of full-throttle accelerations for every power level. Basically he had to come to a stop and floor the truck up to 60 mph for each power level to program the transmission. Also once on lever 6 and he dropped below level 4 he had to go through the whole process again. I wanted to know if the six gun for the duramax was the same way, and if the edge system workd this way also. Any input would be appreciated.

IIRC, similar, but not while the motor was running. He probably installed the speed loader at the same time which requires the programing. With ign off, set on level 1 for like 5 seconds, move dail to level 6 for 5 sec and back to 1 for 5 secs. IIRC.
Not sure if the ford is different unless he was trying to set the trans too, doesn't make sense to me..
I didn't have to go through any of that with my 6 Gun. After you install the 6-Gun it is ready to go. You don't have to do any of that while driving. You just change the knob to the setting you want. After you install the Speedloader you program the 6-Gun to recognize it by turning the 6-Gun level selector knob in a series of ups and downs. After that there is no adjustment process to go through while driving. Very easy to set up and run.

For the Duramax, if there is no speedloader installed, nothing needs to be done. If you do install the speedloader, all you have to do is turn the key on, set to level 1 for 5 seconds, then to level 6 for 5 seconds and back to level 1 for 5 seconds. The module will give you two green flashes telling you that the speedloader has been detected. He must of misread the instructions. I HIGHLY doubt that it's any different for the Ford, and doing those full throttle runs on each setting doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If he hasn't done the switch procedure as explained above, he still isn't getting the power that the speedloader provides. I haven't installed the Ford 6-Gun, so I can't say I'm 100% correct, but I doubt it would be any other way. As for the transmission learning, it will do that on it's own.

Thanks I thought it was pretty stupid. I will have to go and look at his directions.
