Can I just unplug my EGR like with no problems or is there something special I have to do? I have a 05 Durama. . . . Thanks!

Probably the best thing to do is unplug it first thing in the morning before start up to make sure it is closed all the way (that is what I do). If you have any of the CA or North East emissions you might get the SES light. Mine did. I have a code reader so I keep an eye on the codes to make sure that no other codes other than the EGR codes are set.

You might want to let your truck sit overnight, start it, then shut it off to insure the valve is closed, then unplug it, you might have to use a small srewdriver to hold the clip open when you go to unplug it. It can be a little tight.

05 chevy, I am new to the site but from the HOURS of reading I have done there are several threads on EGR's. There are blocker plates which will throw codes, their are cool circuit boards to keep the computer from -:t codes. They have been named the "finger chip" because 'fingers', one of the members created them. These chips cause the computer to think that the EGR is still inline and functioning as designed...however WE know better. ):h

Fingers/Max if I missed anything please correct the newboy here. :)

Could someone show me a picture of where the EGR can be unplugged at?

Here is the thread that started it all. It has a diagram of the EGR valve. Some good reading too.

Finger Stick. Small circuit that modifies the MAF signal. Must be wired into the engine harnes, or if you have a Juice, Juice harness.

Stick is popular with the California boys to "fix" the light.

How much is the "fingers stick" and plate? And is it real easy to remove?

I just unpluged it today and drove 35 miles of very very familiar road. Time will tell.......
I ran the same route last night with the same outside temp and the coolant was around 200* and MPG was 16.3 in the DIC.

I have noticed a definite increase in MPG(+1-2) and a definite decrease in coolant temp with the EGR unpluged. No SES light yet either after 4 restarts. Now it runs more comparable to my old LB7, temp & MPG wise.

I ran the same route last night with the same outside temp and the coolant was around 200* and MPG was 16.3 in the DIC.

I have noticed a definite increase in MPG(+1-2) and a definite decrease in coolant temp(about a 40* drop)with the EGR unpluged. No SES light yet either after 4 restarts. Now it runs more comparable to my old LB7, temp & MPG wise. After you run it for a while, the temps will settle down, or at least mine did. Mine ran 210° or so on the gauge for a long time WITHOUT the EGR plugged in. On the trip to Indy, it seemed to settle in eventually to run 1-2 clicks down from 210° like my LB7.

Unplugging the EGR will set codes, but no SES light in manty cases. Others will set SES lights hence the need for the Finger Stick. Haven't tried it (stick) myself personally...
