: Banks cold air intake
homepc1 11-11-2007, 09:40 PM I would like some feedback on the Banks cold air intake, I have the banks exhaust, and bully Dogw/outlook and I'm looking at the Banks intake. I would like to know what to expect as far as does cabin noise increase, drop in temps, better gas milage,etc... I have researched alot of different manufactorer's and Banks seems like the best but would like to hear from someone who is running it.
Thanks
Unit453 11-11-2007, 09:46 PM Well, what year is your truck and what other mods do you have?
homepc1 11-11-2007, 10:02 PM It's an 06 LBZ I bought it used about 3 months ago it has the 4" Banks exhaust, bully dog Power Pupw/outlook, and the guy cut out the cat so it's striaght pipe until it meets with the banks muffler.
Unit453 11-11-2007, 10:07 PM Banks makes nice systems but dont expect any power gain or mileage increase with it.
homepc1 11-11-2007, 10:15 PM Thanks for the info maybe I shouldn't waste the $400.00. Did you see any gains with your intake mods?
CRASHNBURN 11-11-2007, 10:43 PM I would say you will gain 1/2 - 1ish mpg gains maybe more if you stay off the pedal. This was town/county drive & not hwy so it should be better on the hwy. I noticed that the turbo seams to spool faster to. Temperature were just a little lower unloaded. I will have to let you know after winter for loaded mileage. I can not remember what that was at.
ReconTom77 11-11-2007, 10:54 PM The Banks intake was the first thing I put on my truck, I had experienced noticeable gains. This is my first time owning a diesel truck and doing modifications so I don't have alot of experience to draw from. As soon as I put the intake on I did a routine 600 mile trip and noticed extra power, cooler temps and about an extra 2 mpg cross country.
Very noticeable difference in performance while towing since I put it on.
Unit453 11-11-2007, 10:56 PM Do the PPE airbox mod by cuttin out the fins in the air box....The stock intakes flow more than enough to support upwards of 500 h.p. Aftermarket companies do make good systems but there's nothing wrong with the stock intake systems.
I did the PPE air box mod and didnt notice anything different at all. Its gotta be flowing better though.
builtupbowtie 11-12-2007, 12:05 AM I noticed in the AEM HD brute force intake thread that alot of guys stated the turbo whistle is louder. Would the banks system also induce a more noticeable tubo whistle? Another thing to consider is that with the banks kit it comes with a k&n filter that needs oil to be cleaned which also on SOME trucks is known to throw a MAF sensor related code.
Mike
Unit453 11-12-2007, 12:07 AM Banks comes with a BANKS filter, not a K&N. Many of them look the same. The oiled filters can cause you problem. Some people have had problems with oiled filters fouling their MAF's and others havent...

Yes I am wrong it is not a K&N, visually similar though, my point was that it's a filter like K&N that requires oil.

Bartman432 11-12-2007, 02:50 AM I have a 2007 LMM with the PPE tuner, MBRP 4" exhaust from the Regen Filter back with the Banks Ram Air..............I've had zero problems........it is as quiet as the factory system. It has never thrown a code. I'm having my truck dynoed this Tuesday...can't wait to see what numbers it is putting out.

You're correct Mike. Some people have problems and others dont. I personally run an AFE dry flow drop in filter with the stock intake tubing.
I ran an AFE stage 2 standard oiled filter when I had my 04 LLY. It was a really nice system and I never had a problem with it either.
pa32rt 11-12-2007, 11:28 AM I have it on mine, with the MBRP DPF-back pipe.
I did the intake first. No other changes at the time and I noticed a significant difference. Quicker spooling/throttle response was immediately noticed. Nothing earth-shattering, but noticeable. I would think you would notice more with all of the other mods you have done.
The plumbing on the Banks (and others, I would imagine) is larger all the way through than stock. The filter is going to be leaps and bounds more efficient than what was in my LMM stock. I dunno if that is the same stock filter for LBZs or not.
As long as you don't OVER oil the filter(s), there should be no problem with an oiled filter.
homepc1 11-12-2007, 11:09 PM Thanks for all the input...I bought the Banks and it will be installed at 8:00 in the morning. i got it for $376.00 I think thats a good price.

Have you taken your stock Donaldson filter out and blown through it? If not, trust me on this...Pop it out, put your hand on one end and blow through the other...I guarantee you sir that you'll be surprized at just how well it flows...Its not anything like the old style flat paper filters...
I did it and I was baffled....
builtupbowtie 11-13-2007, 12:46 AM $376 is a real good price where did you order from?
Mike
Unit453 11-13-2007, 12:52 AM I think there's one in the market place, brand new for $300.
homepc1 11-13-2007, 08:53 AM Toys for Trucks in Hesperia,ca they matched Banks show price of 376.00(plus tax) and then beat it with 376.00 out the door.(yucaipa,ca=sales tax 7.75%/another 29.00)

Wow. Well, you've got a point. I didn't even give it a chance by checking that. I was thrown the RamAir by a buddy that tunes diesels, so I got a smokin' deal. Couldn't resist. Plus, I like to clean and re-oil filters anyway.
