I have a 01 duramax with allison. Bought it used from a dealer, don't know PO. I was going to upgrade the transmission to handle some more power, I popped off the inspection cover and noticed a purple converter. I am sure it is aftermarket but dont know what brand. Is there anything else I can check to see what else might be upgraded so maybe I don't have to drop the trans?

ATS trannys are purple, if that is confirmed., you made a very good deal1

Quality convertors are also purple. Also check to see if the lugs are one part of the cover of the convertor(where it bolts to the flexplate) or if they are welded, and if the welds have been gone over and welded on all 4 sides of the lug. Rotate the motor around and look for a sticker. You might want to try to contact the previous owner for more info if possible. Was there anything extra on it? Egt probe or hole for one? Probably got a good truck the way it sounds.
