Changed the oil and filter Sunday. I was on a level surface, had just returned from a 20 minute drive. Let the truck cool for about 10 minutes just before I started.

When putting in new oil I only had to add 9qrts. I thought the dmax held 10qrts? I have checked the dipstick everyday since then and it is show right in the middle of the "exceptable" range.

Did I miss something?

Mine always takes 10. Seems strange to me but I'd go by your dip stick.

If you are in the "middle" of the acceptable range then you could add a quart to get to the top of the acceptable range. From Add to Full on the dipstick is about 2 quarts. For the most accurate reading possible, remove the dipstick and keep it out overnight. Check in the morning. SPICER

Mine seems to take 9.5.

Having problems reading dip stick... drill it.

Many of us have drilled small holes between the bars
on the dipstick to collect oil which shows the
exact oil level...... hot or cold.

Blow on the holes to remove the collected oil...
reinsert the dipstick and you'll see the oil level
very clearly fill the holes.

It really is easy to do and will definately
make reading the oil level very accurate.

Also, I change my oil and filter regularly at 4000 miles. I don't need to add
any between changes. I always put back 10 quarts.

my oil's always black as soon as i put it in. i guess that's why i can always read it:rolleyes:. but i always put in 10 quarts, which goes to the full mark. alsol lift front tires so it drains to the back of the pan for my fumoto.

How is this any better than just pulling the dipstick, wiping it, and checking it again? Just curious.

Oil gets trapped above the "fishing weight" on the dip cable making an accurate read difficult for some.
I drain the oil with the truck parked in a level garage and then put 10 quarts back in including the filter.
Oil level ends up 1/8" above the full mark into the tapered portion of the stick.
I feel that production tolerances on the cables account for the variations we are seeing in observed oil levels.
Drain and add 10 and let that be your new "full".
