I was driving on I-95 two days ago and caught a rock right in the middle of the windshield. There is now a nice little chunk of glass missing and a quater-sized siderweb of cracks.
Anyone ever have a window fixed by those folks you see on TV with the resin stuff they squirt in there?
I am wondering if it is worth it, or should I skip straight to replacing the window.

we only repair the windshield if it is smaller than a nickel. some will repair any size. i would replace it. i would advise against safelite or diamond/triumph, as there techs are paid on commision and their only goal is to get in there and get out as fast as possible. wil

Have it replaced. The stuff they shoot into fish eyes is not the same as getting a new windshield new. You can still see where the spot was.

I beleive the repair is geared more towards passing inspections...kinda like stuffing scotch brite pads and bondo into a rust hole....
From what I was told if it has any hairline cracks at all it can not be repaired....

Your insurance company should cover it.

Your insurance company should cover it.
Yep.
Less your deductible, of course...

'Depends on your policy... some have no deductible for glass.

My policy covers fish-eye repairs for free. Guess they figure it's cheaper to at least try and fix it than go straight to replacement....
If it is spider-webbed, it is probably beyond repair, although I've seen people cut a circle with a glass cutter just beyond a crack. When the crack hits the circle, it travels back into itself and stops.

I have 2 that are about the size of a dime fixed 4 years ago and they have held up well but look like sh*t. When I questioned my insurance company why my rates didn't go down even though the vehicles are getting older, one response was they had my windshields fixed for the dings a couple of times. Next time I will ask for a new windshield.

Get it fixed by Insurance, if it isn't in your normal field of view. There's alot of crappy windshields/installers out there.
