Getting ready to do the flush and switch to syn, I got some spin ons and have changed that before. Where do I buy the filter inside the pan? Besides the dealer!

The filter inside the pan only needs to be replaced when rebuilding the tranny.

That's right.... it's a plastic part with a fine mesh stainless screen only.

If you do need to buy one look up your nearest Detroit Diesel/Allison dealer.

When switching to the synthetic fluid is it necessary to drop the pan?

According to a local allison dealer, all they do is drain the pan, replace spin-on filter, fill with Transynd, drive for 25,000 mi. then repeat, and your good to go for 100,000 mi. replace internal filter only at overhaul.

New fluid and spin on filter is all that's required. Only need to change the internal filter at overhaul or if you're switching over to an extra capacity pan. If you're going with the deep pan you'll need a different internal filter, ie; it has a different pick-up angle on it.

If you drop the pan and pull the suction filter, you will get at about another quart of the dino fluid out of the system. Pan gasket is reusable, and be carefull tightening the bolts (they screw into aluminum).
