: Bogging down power loss upon acceleration

My 03 boggs down and loses power after heavy acceleration. Had to press accelerator to the floor to get in front of some traffic from a stand still. The ally appeared to go thru 3 or 4 gears normally and then the engine bogged down and lost power. Couldn't get it past 50 mph. When accelerating normally to cruising speed this doesn't happen. I pulled over and tried it again and the same thing happened when heavily accelerated from a stand still.

I checked this site and found a couple of similar situations. Something was mentioned about the fuel filter.

I checked for codes with my Bully Dog on the fly module but no codes were shown.

What do you experts think might be causing this?

No codes? When was the last time you did your fuel filter?

I believe the last fuel filter change was 18,000 miles ago. I am actually deer hunting right now in Illinois and don't have my records with me. Just seems weird that it does it only after the 3rd or 4th gear and it only does it when I accelerate heavily to wot. I certainly hope it is only the fuel filter. I plan on changing that when I get back home.

If it's been 18,000mi since the filter was changed. I would start there and see if that helps.

Did you get a deer?

This usually happens to me and I freak myself out and then I remember to check the fuel filter... 18,000 is a good amount of miles to go without a change. Also don't forget to check the air filter. That can do it as well.

Wanted to let everyone know who might eventually have a similar problem that so far by changing the fuel filter this appears to have resolved the problem. Got on the pedal real hard from a stand still after replacing the fuel filter. Truck ran the way it is supposed to. Did it one more time just to make sure this wasn't a fluke and everything functioned normally.
Thanks for the help!
