: It's about time
mjdmax 11-09-2007, 08:50 PM I have a 2002 2500HD DMAX and I have been waiting for some auto manufacture to come up with a 1/2 ton diesel. GOOD FOR YOU GM.
I want a diesel but don't need all the power of the 3/4 , 1 ton trucks.
I will be the first to buy one. It will be the hottest selling truck. you mark my words. There is alot of people that want a diesel truck but won't buy one because they are to powerful and they don't get good fuel mileage.
skidont 11-09-2007, 08:57 PM they will diffently sell a alot of them

They will have almost the same power as the 6.6 but a lot better fuel mileage. Unless you drive like me.:D

I did not know you could have too much power:p:
Seriously they are saying that 4.5 diesel should be putting out 300HP. That is what the LB7 6.6 duramaxes were putting out:D
I want it in a Tahoe/yukon:D
xgardx 11-15-2007, 01:03 PM i can't wait to see them in person either. i've wanted a second truck, with a crew cab ( more of a car/truck) but can't afford another fuel gussler like a 3/4, 1ton does. would love get one for the old lady since she wants a truck for her new vehical. if it gets 20+ MPG in real world driving and has that much power to match: SIGN ME UP!
tmk50 11-15-2007, 08:44 PM I am interested - but I want to see the torque curve on this motor before I commit to buying one, I hope it makes all it's tq between 1600 & 2000 rpms.

I'm pretty confident that GM knows guys like the ones who visit this site first are going to be the first ones in line to buy, and that they know what it is we're looking for before we'll commit to the purchase.
MonteCarlo31 11-15-2007, 10:18 PM Back off I got my name in the hat first. J/K, I'm all over our fleet guys for info, whoever makes it first, ford expedition or chevy suburban, they'll get my money. I'm like a high class hooker, first to the house wins. As fleet buyers (200 ford trucks a year 150 to 550 and about 100 gms a year 1500 to 5500 we're usually first to hear) so I'll keep my ears out.
torqueofthetown 11-16-2007, 07:05 PM Given the power ratings at least 310hp with only 520 lbs/tor the goal was to make this have a power curve more like a gas engine. This is done to make this engine desirable to the general public and not just us gear heads. I expect it will have a flat torque curve (electronically limited as to not shread the drivetrain) and a redline somewhere north of 4k.
13Fox 11-17-2007, 03:11 AM If they put one in a suburban like they are talking, I think it would be a huge seller. I'll be first in line!

That is very close to the original Duramax numbers. I doubt it red lines much over 3200. I think a torque curve just like the LBZ would be fine. I think it would get better mpg than a gas engine like torque curve.

While the numbers are close, the engine is smaller by about~ a third so its not hard to imagine a higher redline. However I revising my estimated redline down a bit. I think max hp to be in the 3600-3700rpm range with a redline in the 3800-4000 range and peak torque around 2000rpms.
No matter what it comes out to be, I'm really excited about it:)
I can't wait...... Reg Cab SWB 2wd 3"/5" drop 20" wheels....sign me up:cool:
07sporty 11-25-2007, 03:32 AM Yukon Dd....denali Duramax Will Be In My Garage I'll Have The First One In The Denver Area!!!
csmetreyeon06 11-25-2007, 08:10 PM Ok y'all need to cut this crap out all this anticipation is getting to me I love my truck but cant wait to see the true numbers a power of the new 4.5.

This could be true, but with an intake, exhaust and a flash which i'm sure will be out with in 6 months of the diesel hitting the market who cares. you will be seeing half tons hitting the 400 hp mark and puttind down 600-700 lb/tor. Hope they mate a good tranny up to it as well. As some one who is looking to, in the near future, pulling a jeep and having to go up mountains with that jeep on a trailer the 4.5 could be a great option over my current 5.3 gas.
On thing i would worry about is GM putting it in a vehicle and the general public who know jack about diesels killing the engine and blaming GM. aka, How much oil? Why does the engine just keep turning over when i turn the key and it doesn't start? Why do I have to plug it in in the cold? etc. I'm sure you can see my point.
rudy fontana 12-04-2007, 07:36 PM From what I hear the new exhaust systems will be very difficult if impossible to alter due to the new emmissions standards which are now intergrated into the computer system. I think the days of the big powerful modified diesels will be over very shortly.

Ever heard the saying "Make something idiot-proof and they'll make a better idiot?" It'll be the same way here. Companies are always trying to find ways to keep people from changing up their original design, but it always seems to just be bigger incentive for people to go out and find a way to.
