: Fuel Mileage ?
Runaway 11-09-2007, 09:30 AM You guys/gals reporting the higher fuel mileage with the LMM, are you running stock 16" or 17" tires. I'm only interested in those of you running in the stock configuration please.
Getting ready to take the plunge and tire size is one of the decisions I am deciding on.
TIA
fastlap 11-09-2007, 10:31 AM Bone stock Lmm dually 4x4 on stock narrow 16" love the tires , love the mileage ! Love the power !

Talisi 11-09-2007, 10:39 AM Stock!
TRMN8R 11-09-2007, 11:24 AM Running stock.........16's.
Kenafin_02TA 11-09-2007, 11:43 AM Stock 17's was averaging 17.5 mpg with mixed city/highway...now down to 17mpg..I'm guessing the switch to winter blend diesel.
BilltheRVer 11-09-2007, 01:45 PM I've taken about ten 150 mile highway trips (one way) and have almost 6000 miles on my LMM now. The average speed is about 65 mph I get 19.5 mpg normally, but only 18.5 to 19 if there is a regen on the trip. Since camping season is over, I won't take any longer trips until spring.
Chevydude19852003 11-09-2007, 04:16 PM Running Stock 17's i have 13,000 miles and im getting around 18 on the freeway and 15 in town. I've been Happy so far
BilltheRVer 11-09-2007, 04:32 PM Oops, sorry, I forgot. My LMM is completely stock with 16 inch tires. I do have a cab height ARE cap.
JIMMMY 11-09-2007, 07:48 PM LT275/65R-18 Toyo Open Country H/T on Venti V98 18x9 +25mm offset. 50psi front, 40psi rear unloaded.
A.R.E. Canopy, Willmore Stainless Steel Tube Steps, Bed Coating, Bed Mat, Rear Wheel Wells Undercoating, GM Mud Flaps, Stanadyne, B5 BioDiesel, Fumoco Valve, Baldwin Filters.
21.5 MPG freeway with 6,000+ miles…. 18 MPG freeway when new... up 1 MPG with Stanadyne... up 1 MPG with the cab-high canopy... up 1 MPG after hitting 4,000 miles…..
pc_renaud 11-09-2007, 08:02 PM running 18 to 20 mpg on stock 16s as long as i keep the rpms under 2000
Mgibrace 11-10-2007, 12:51 AM Stock 16's at 65-67 psi all around. I just got 17 mpg at 2000 rpms over 1000 mi. Hand calc matched DIC. Just turned 2500 mi.
alvareracing 11-10-2007, 07:06 AM bone stock, with 65 psi in front/75 psi rear (trying out an experiment) I'm getting 16-17 in town and 19-20 hwy keeping it under 2000rpm. 350 miles on the clock. Its hard to keep your foot out of it. LOL:)
JIMMMY 11-10-2007, 09:59 AM bone stock, with 65 psi in front/75 psi rear (trying out an experiment)
I run 50psi front, 40psi rear unloaded. Has NOT hurt mpg.....
Runaway 11-10-2007, 10:52 AM Looks like most are running 16's. Couple of you with 17's. I'm looking at an LTZ and they come standard with 17's. If I order, I can get 16's. Looks like the 17's are 1" taller than the 16's and an 1" wider. Basically they are 265R75-16s. Guess that's why the spare is a 16" tire. Anyway. the smaller 245's are narrower, just like current truck and have the potential to get the better mileage. I also thought, until I actually did some measuring that 16's would get me lower. They do, by a half an inch or so. So basically GM raised the overall height of the truck so they now sit as high as the Dodges and Fords.
Hope to here from more of you running the STOCK 17s in a STOCK configured truck.
Thanks for the inputs so far. Will be making my final decision on what to do on Monday.
JIMMMY 11-10-2007, 11:32 AM Go 18's my boy..... The bigger tires have NOT hurt my MPG either......
I run 275/65R-18 (32.1” dia)
ReadyLift ref that will fit with level lift: 285/65-18 (32.6” dia)
Stock ref:
245/75–16 (30.5” dia) or 265/70-17 (31.6” dia)

mothnuts 11-10-2007, 12:03 PM Everything stock with stock 17s. 60 psi all around with 10,000 miles on it. 55-65 mph unloaded 21ish (without a regen in the mix) 65-70 unloaded 19.5 -20, 70-75 gets around 18.5, and 75-80 around 17.5. I have a buddy who has the 16s, and he's getting about the same. I'd base my opinion off which wheel you prefer the looks of, or for some other reason such as 16" wheels fit on one of your trailers or something like that. Fuel mileage is going to vary very little from my experience. Good luck with your decision.
buddy110 11-10-2007, 06:49 PM Wow, I have around 1000 miles on my 08 dually and I'm getting 12.9. What's wrong here?
Greg Manning 11-10-2007, 09:44 PM LTZ with 17's....19.5 if highway only at 75....20.5-21 if 55 mph and getting 16-17.5 city miles, depending on how much stop and go. This is all from the DIC not hand calculated. 6000 miles. Mileage has improved some the last 1000 miles. I am getting 11-12 and some change towing at around 12000#. 60# front and 64# rear unloaded.
DieselLMM_6sp 11-10-2007, 11:19 PM 17" aluminum
25mpg on the highway with cruise control set at 55mph
24mpg on the highway with cruise control set at 60mph
22mpg on the highway with cruise control set at 65mph
20mpg on the highway with cruise control set at 70mph
3850 miles / 219 gallons used = 17.57 mpg average
*******
are the 16" wheels aluminum or steel? the material makes some difference due to a less rotating weight. that's why i went for the 17" because i knew they were aluminum. not sure on the 16"
alvareracing 11-11-2007, 06:27 AM DieselLMM 6spd - how much air in the tires do you run for that mpg? Just curious if different air pressure affects mpg.
Runaway 11-11-2007, 08:46 AM Thanks guys, looks like it doesn't really matter which way I go. I've decided on 16's - cost factor, less money to replace.
The 16" rim is the same as they have been using on the classic's. Polished aluminum I believe they are.
BUDDY110, I believe the duallys typically stay in the 15 - 16 mpg range based on what I have seen on previous year models. Maybe some will chime in that's running a dually.
I've pretty much decided finally on cab config and options. The 2500 LTZ CC/LB/4x4 and of course the DMAX/ALLY, Now just deciding on a color. Leaning toward Blue Granite, maybe Ruby Red, but I also like the Silver Birch. Looks like I have to order as these are pretty scarce around these parts, especially in the LTZ package.
WilliamBos 11-11-2007, 10:13 AM for $600 I can put 6 new skins on this thing !! My sons 18" on his truck are about $600 for 2 LOL !!
Thats my biggest reason for not getting rims any bigger than what came on the truck, which may include 17". Glad you love your truck.
Roman Traveler 11-11-2007, 04:59 PM BUDDY110, I have 1,500 miles on my 08 dually and I'm getting about 13.5 around town and 17 tops on the freeway at 65.

LMMOWNER 11-11-2007, 05:26 PM Rt get rid of your dpf, lol.
If it is any help I am getting 20mpg around town and 25 on the freeway with a 100hp tune loaded in, running on stock 16 inch config, shortbed, at 67mph, if hit the 70-75 mph mark I see around 22-23
any questions let me know
Roman Traveler 11-11-2007, 07:59 PM LMMOWNER, you sure know how to hurt a guy. All the best with your ride.

jim z 11-11-2007, 09:12 PM I just got 8.5 towing a 28 ft enclosed with 1 motorcycle in it up and back on the PA Northeast extension. Might have gotten better if I let it under 75 mph. Ran between 75-85 mph most of the way. BIG difference (powerwise) from my 1998 6.5 dually. Power was unbelievable. I need to slow down a bit if I want better mileage I guess. Just turned 1000 miles on way up. 1200 now.
Roman Traveler 11-15-2007, 06:25 PM A little update, just got back from a 160 mile round trip and averaged 19.7 going and 19.1 coming back (DIC). This was under ideal conditions at 70 MPH going and closer to 75 MPH returning. I feel a lot better about my dually now.
