: Aux Switches in Cubby Hole
I have an '02 Crew Cab and as such there is a hole where the airbag disable would be in an ext cab. What I would like to do is route my high idle switch to that spot and use the factory air bag switch from an ext cab truck to disable my positive air shutoff valve for the engine. What I am looking for are any pointers from anyone that has used that location for switching.
Thanks? :)
GMC2500HD 12-08-2004, 09:19 PM Well I can tell you this much. All you have to do is pull the dash off and you will have total access to that spot. You can make a plate to fit in there and then you can mount anything you want in there. I will be making a plate to hold the switches for my lights on the brushguard as soon as I get that.
BK Tool 12-08-2004, 09:22 PM And if you would, please tell us "un-knowings" how to pull the dash off. I am thinking of changing my gauge face plate. But that's another story.
TIA

GMC2500HD 12-08-2004, 09:24 PM All you have to do is grab a corner of the dash and pull slowly, you will hear the pins pop and the dash will come off. You might have to turn the key on and put the truck in the lowest gear setting just to get the shifter out of the way. Remember, pull gently on the dash and it will come off... Good luck
TheBac 12-08-2004, 09:31 PM I think this is what you want:

It's a bit pricey, but you may be able to find one cheaper somewhere.
That should be the ticket.

Comes off real easy, as has been said. Also, I find it helps A LOT to tilt the wheel alll the way down. I have no experience on changing face plates, but I hear that removing the needles can be a daunting procedure - ie: pulling the whole shaft out of the gauge. Be careful...

HoustonDMax 12-09-2004, 08:16 AM Mounted my SPA 211 in that exact location, along with a momentary on/off switch so I can get it in program mode without shutting off the truck, as well as the programming switch.
Stealth mode, for those that are looking to see if I have pillar guages whne they are beside me sizing me up.
As the bone doc said, very easy to get to it. You will have to turn on the key and put the shifter down in 1 to completely remove the surrond.
ratlover 12-09-2004, 09:32 AM There is also a factory switch for the plow prep deal and a few otheres, I think the quad steer has a 3 position you may beable to hack. also if you dont have fog lights you can do some canabalizing to a fog light/cargo light switch assembly for the factory look.
Thanks for the input - I think I would be leary about pulling the entire dash - one for breaking something and two for fit afterward. That plate from JPCustoms is exactly what I would need.
ratlover 12-10-2004, 10:22 AM I've pulled that thing off more times than i can count. its robust

What is a high idle switch used for?

To manually turn on the high idle to warm up the truck faster.
Dr Crane 12-11-2004, 12:35 PM Best bet for changing guage face is to take picture of dash with ign on for back up reference. What I did was to mark the face with soapstone after rotating the needles all the way counterclockwise. If you're changeing the face, this could be another reference. Separating the cluster is a little tricky so be careful, one time I caught the trip odometer switch on something, it came apart and I lost a piece so it no longer works. Keep in mind a new dash is $285 and is on "Super Galactic Backorder"
TheBac 12-11-2004, 12:41 PM "Super Galactic Backorder"
Now that term is funny.....like "Ludicrous Speed" unless, of course, you're a poor sop waiting for a cluster.
Why not try the local boneyards for a used one and have it reflashed with your odometer readings? Just an idea.....
