: mechanical boost gauge..louder
Twister773 11-09-2007, 12:42 AM anyone else notice that once installed a mechanical boost gauge it is louder in cab...like the gauge is making noise due to the fact that the boost line runs into the back of the gauge...any way to not make it be so loud and keep it mechanical...not that big of deal but im just wondering
tinman22 11-09-2007, 12:47 AM is it possible that where you ran the tubing throgh the firewall there are gaps and its actual engine noise entering the cab through holes around yoour boost line?
diesel625 11-09-2007, 01:03 AM i have never heard a difference in sound. maybe the connection is a little loose or the cab is leaking in underhood noise?
RENODMAX 11-09-2007, 01:55 AM If it sounds like its coming from the gauge it could be a few things. One could be if you didnt put teflon tape or pipe dope on the threads it could be leaking. One of the more common things seems to be almost getting turbulence through that little crappy nylon boost line. I cut mine down so there isnt 10 feet of it coiled up under my dash, and made sure all connections were zip tied in place so it cant bang around. Give that a whirl.
Twister773 11-09-2007, 02:12 AM maybe i need to teflon tape the part that goes into the gauge...thats the only thing that it could be from your suggestions...ill try it and let you know thanks...so that means my boost gauge is probably reading low...great!
RENODMAX 11-09-2007, 11:08 AM Yeah if you hear a hissing noise you most likely have a leak. Just teflon tape the threads for like 3 or 4 wraps and then take two crescent wrenches and tighten it down pretty snug.
Twister773 11-09-2007, 01:02 PM thats what i figured...i will take a look at it later today maybe...TONS of homework to catch up on...thanks reno ill try it and let you know how it goes
RENODMAX 11-09-2007, 01:13 PM yeah no problem. if you have any questions you can just PM me
Twister773 11-09-2007, 01:16 PM sounds good thanks
Twister773 11-09-2007, 03:03 PM if it is leaking a little...how off could my boost have been...have i been boosting way more than it has been showing or would it not effect it too much!
huthuthut 11-09-2007, 04:49 PM Oh boy no bueno! If you're hearing wooshing then its definately boost pressure leaking. So think about it.... not all pressure getting to gauge, lets say you are losing 20% of it, then your gauge has been reading 20% low (20 psi would be 24 psi for example). Get that thing fixed!
Donovan 11-09-2007, 05:03 PM Did you use copper line? I have noticed that the copper lines transmit a lot more NVH that the poly line. What i did is put some rubber tubing over the nylon to protect the line and quiet it down a bit.
Twister773 11-09-2007, 05:47 PM thanks for the suggestions
RENODMAX 11-10-2007, 01:23 AM What i do is under the hood i run 1/4" id heater hose to the firewall, then i run the nylon crap in the cab because it seems like it would be really sensitive to high heat. Then its all wire loomed and zip tied in to place. No noise whatsoever. not any i can hear over my exhaust or turbo anyway:D
Twister773 11-10-2007, 01:24 AM haha....thanks
RENODMAX 11-10-2007, 01:27 AM Theres no way to see how much it would be effecting your boost, but it will definately alter the reading on the gauge. get it fixed like i told you to and youll be fine. also make sure all under hood connections are using pipe dope or teflon tape where you tapped into the intake manifold. PM me if you want pictures of my setup. its solid.
Twister773 11-10-2007, 01:29 AM yea i teflon taped the fitting under the hood ill have to do it tomorrow night or sunday...Golf tournament my dad puts on for charity tomorrow...basically drunks everywhere haha
RENODMAX 11-10-2007, 01:51 AM Ha. Well i gotta take some pics of my truck tomorrow anyway i got my black h2's and 315's on and everybody has been buggin to see them so while im out there ill show you how i ran everything.
Twister773 11-10-2007, 01:54 AM sounds like a plan...how do you like the new tires....
