I'm new to diesels, so i'm not too familiar with what's normal and whats not on this truck. The motor has the typical diesel rattling sound too it, but iw ould of thaught it would go away more under throttle. It does once boost builds, for a second or two, but starts again just before shifting till it builds boost again. Is this normal? I don't remember the truck i test drove sounding like this before i ordered my truck. Not sure if i'm just being peranoid after spending so much on this new truck. thanks in advance...

Hard to put a level of rattle scale in words but if it sounds like the day you got it or a tad louder enjoy.
If you should hear a sudden difference then you should be concerned. This isn't referencing the Pilot injection shut off at approx 2500 RPM although. That's when it will rattle like a real diesel.

I had the same concerns about mine, but now after 8500 miles it runs and sounds just like it did when I got it, so I don't worry any more. Mine has a light "pinging" sound just cruising along at highway speeds, probably louder than I would tolerate if it was a gasser. Under acceleration there is a much louder knock that starts at about 2500 rpms, which I am told is a result of the "pilot injection" being turned off. It would be nice if GM would send along a CD of "normal diesel noises" for those of us who have never owned a diesel before.

ya, a cd of "normal diesel noises" would be nice. I must just be peranoid. Guess i need a louder stereo to cover up the noises so i don't worry so much... ):h
