I bought a new Racor 1000FH with the heating element that Greasel is selling. It's so huge I need to mount it in the back, my current Racor is upfront. With installing it I figured I'd also upgrade my fuel line to 3/8 from 5/16, I was having a little of high RPM flutter (3400 rpm +) on grease only. In any case, I dropped the tank tonight, and was a little hesitant to look inside, I heard from other sites of rust or gummy deposits with WVO in steel tanks. In any case, I've got almost 3 months and am happy to report a shiny clean tank. There was a slight waxy film (thickness not measureable by anything any of us would have) on the inside top, similar to what is left when I go back to my empty drum (a plastic drum) a couple of days after I've filled up the truck. The residue disapears after I fill the drum with more dirty oil to be warmed and filtered. I am thinking the film was there because I was running the tank as empty as I could before dropping it, and based on how slight it was, it gets washed off with every full tank.

My sending unit has been acting up lately on my last 1/4 of each tank, swinging kind of wild. It looks alright, I'm wondering if my heat exchanger isn't bouncing around when the level gets low, I might look at moving it farther from the pickup somehow. Is there any way to check the sender, any typical problem areas etc. In any case, just wanted to dispell any myth's of WVO in the steel tanks.
