This is a recent thing and I am worried. 02 with 144K on it. Engine is all stock except for the egr not working. When it does it it also blows some black smoke then clears up. Any help is appreciated. It was also surging at idle but that went away on its own.:mad:

black is unburnt fuel,but you probably already know that.the surging sounds like a fuel pressure regulator.hopefully you will not have any problems,but i would have it checked out by a good duramax mechanic.some dealers do have one,or two.

Sounds like FPR going bad loading up at start. Should get it checked out before it gets worse and not start.

could be,have a diesel mechanic check balance and return rates of the injectors,sorry but i am not of much more help.

is there diesel fuel in your oil? that would be signs of a leaky injector
