Smooth power and good economy are this box's strong points.
Good choice.
Get Gauges and an exhaust next

I have a VA-150 on my '02 LB7 w/ the ZF/6 tranny. It works great. It is smooth, truck behaves like a stock truck which is what I wanted instead of some radical behavior like I experienced with an unnamed programmer box I had previously. And when you mash it, the power is definitely there. I would also recommend gauges. VA has good technical support as well.

I'm running the VA 70-125 (Kennedy Diesel tune) with great results. Very smooth, good milage and very good power. The most power I would put on a stock Allison. I have had no problems at all.

TeamGE, sounds like the tunes are working well for you. Do you have an egt? If so, how hot does the tow tune (70 hp) as compared to stock? Is there any extra rattle on any of the tunes? Finally, how has the box affected shift characteristics?

HDGMC,
I do not have an EGT guage installed, for I am not worried about EGT's being too high. John at Kennedy Diesel recommended this tune to me for it's ability to tow at the 70hp level and play at the 125hp level with little or no problems on EGT's. I will install a guage when I get into a heavier trailer, but for right now, I am only pulling up to 5 or 6,000 lbs. There is no extra rattle in the motor, just a little more noise in general, only when you are using the power, (to be expected anytime you make more power). The Alison does need to learn that there is more power there, so ease into the 125hp level with lots of town driving. Once the trans learns, the shifts are more firm and feel good. I would have to say I wish the converter had a little tighter stall speed though. You can really feel the extra slip in the stall speed, when the converter is not locked up. It is not a problem with the tune or the converter, just my opinion on what I would like to have. The tow/haul mode works well on getting the extra power to the tires when you want tighter feeling power.

as to pros and cons on van Aaken 0-70-125 smart box-e, i have a few freinds running vanAaken 0-70-110, which i think is the same are one older version, they have no gauges and pull all sorts of heavy stuff, always pull they tell me on the high setting, and never had problems, also seen an advantage with the fuel mileage, now with my own point of view i would say the va 125, power pup , predator, or edge attitude would be the direction i would look at, try in stay under the 130 hp to save the tranny, and you will be one happy camper
