Transmitter Programming

Important

All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to four transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

You may program up to 4 transmitters, using either of the two following procedures:

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)
Close all the vehicle doors.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold the door unlock switch.
While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 2 - Scan Tool Required)
Install a scan tool.
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Use the scan tool in order to access the Body Control Module (BCM) Special Function: Program Key Fobs menu.
Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

How many key-fobs have you tried? Are you doing them all one-after-another, without leaving programming mode? I would be inclined to say you may have a bad reciever if it is doing this with more than one key-fob. Have you tried pulling the key-fob apart and cleaning the pad and contacts real good with alcohol? They like to get filled with lint and crap.

I only have 1 keyfob. If there was something wrong with the keyfob, why would it program?? It works during the program cycle. Just not after I get out of program cycle.

When programming, most tend to sit there and really push hard on the buttons. After programming, you usually just lightly press one button, not mash down on both. I have seen dirty transmitters do wierd things. By chance, what is the part # of your transmitter?

I cleaned up the keyfob and it still does the same thing. Works during programming but not once I get out of program mode. Thanks

Are you by any chance located near any radio equipment or any thing like that? We are located next to the airport, and sometimes goofy stuff happens with keyless entry/remote start systems here. Just a thought.

No, Im not. And I've tried this at several different locations. I live out in the country not close to anything that could cause intereference. Also don't have any special equipment in my truck other than Edge/Juice w/ Attitude.

I had the same problem with my #2 remote, I had read on this site some where how to reset it with the Method #1, tried that but must have done something wrong in the programing, as it would not work on the #2 remote, only #1.
I took it in to the local dealer told him what I had tried (Method#1) he said that he has never heard of any way to reprogram without a tool. So I just sat there and waited for 40 min. for them to take the truck in the back and do it. Mine is a 2004, so it did not cost anything, and I did not push the issue.
