: Leveling kit on LMM
04gmcmax 11-08-2007, 03:10 PM I know this has been discussed before, but haven't really found the responses from the LMM owners.
Okay, so, anyone with a LMM put on the leveling kits, the ones that consist of the different torsion keys and shock extenders? If so how much lift did you gain and did the ride get worse if at all? I want to level out the front end but this being a "company" vehicle I don't want to go all out with a full blown lift.
Thanks.
unexpected 11-08-2007, 03:19 PM I asked the same question to an LMM owner who had his dealer crank up his factory tbs. He said the ride stiffened a little bit but nothing to complain about. I saw pics of it and it looks good, pretty level, I dont think its necessary to buy a complete leveling kit.
unexpected 11-08-2007, 03:20 PM My plans are to do the same ( crank up factory tbs ) and in about 6 months do an actual lift.
Duratime 11-08-2007, 03:48 PM I've been looking to do the same thing and have done a lot of reading. The first thing that you need to realize is that the suspension on an LMM is the same as the old body style, so there is a bunch of info on the OBS trucks. Also, from what I have read, if you crank the bars too much the truck will ride bad. Cranking the bars doesn't make it stiffer, from what I have read. The bad ride comes from hitting the travel stops on the A-arms. I have been in a truck that was leveled just by cranking (not sure what if anything was done with the shocks), and I didn't like the ride. On the Nor-cal website there is a lot of info on the problems of just cranking the bars. A mild crank may be ok though. Good Luck.
unexpected 11-08-2007, 03:59 PM yeah I see. but whats a mild crank? maybe I should just wait and do it right in a few months. but it looks so "stock" oh well, maybe it will motivate me to do it sooner.
LMMKING 11-08-2007, 05:44 PM Trust me leveling sucks, I did it to mine. When I bought the truck my plan was to level it out and put some nice rims and tires on it. After I leveled it I changed my mind because the ride was soo crapy!

what kit did you do? cause i did a cheap ebay kit on a guys truck and the damn thing nearly broke my back. we took that one off and put a ready lift kit on the it w/ shock extenders and it rode almost like stock.

I had a local 4X4 shop do it. It wasnt a cheap one, it cost $480 to have it installed.
1lowdiesel 11-08-2007, 06:03 PM but who made it. cause not for nothing but just becasue they charged you $480 doesn't mean the keys didn't cost $100. not to mention it only takes a half hour to do it if you have a lift.

Duratime,
Your not that far from us. If you ever need anything let me know and we can help. I keep Bilstein's in stock and a mild crank is not bad as long as you keep distance between the UCA and frame stop. Most of the new trucks don't need anything other than shocks and factory keys to get a mild 1"-1.5". After that you loose drop out travel and that is where the ride suffers.
What size tire and wheel are you looking to run?

Thanks Nick, I'm planning on it at some point. My sister lives in Walnut Creek, so when time (and money) permits, I'm going to visit your shop and her after and kill two birds with one stone. I'm leaning towards the UCA kit. I'm still undecided on the rear though, thinking about just adding some air bags.

Cool. Yea air bags are the best all around, just cost alittle more. Keep me posted.

Wow .. I haven't seen anyone put H2's on a new body yet. Although I haven't looked. That would be nice to see how it would turn out.
