: Using marked/dyed fuel
hammo 11-08-2007, 11:16 AM Does anyone know if there are any issues with using marked/dyed diesel in a Duramax? I have friends that work on job sites and farms and they run dyed diesel in their personal vehicles (because it's free), just curious if there would be any side effects or possible damage.
ReconTom77 11-08-2007, 11:22 AM The only side effect I can think of is it's kinda illegal.

K-max05 11-08-2007, 11:44 AM I think it's great screw the gov out of the road tax. It won't hurt them it's only dye in the fuel, but they don't run well on furnace oil i've heard!
beermccoy 11-08-2007, 11:47 AM Do a search of red fuel.... There are many discussions concerning it.
PADiesel 11-08-2007, 12:01 PM Not sure how it works in a Dmax but don't try it in a Powerchoke unless you like to rebuild the fuel system. I've seen a few in my area that needed work after using it. We also have some cops that like to dip tanks too.
Vin63 11-08-2007, 12:06 PM I believe the dyed off-road use diesel has a higher sulfur content...around 500 ppm, or more? Maybe someone who is more familiar with the refinement can verify. In California, the on-road #2 is ULSD - 15 ppm, or less. Your injectors would probably like the off-road diesel, but it's a hefty fine if you're caught.
dmaxchebby 11-08-2007, 12:15 PM used it once, seemed like it ran better
70 gsconvt 11-08-2007, 12:19 PM If they catch you on the road with it, it is a HUGE fine.
hammo 11-08-2007, 02:49 PM Yeah, I know it's illegal, just curious if hurts the engine or the already crappy injectors. It's not me for me, it's for a "friend"...ha,ha:)
jdugie123 11-08-2007, 04:40 PM it works just fine haven't had any problems when i needed to use it
Philbilly2 11-08-2007, 05:20 PM Check this thread out, I belive it answers your questions. The only thing I can add to what has been said so far, is this if you are running fuel from a tank that has been sitting for a bit, ex. farm tank, the fuel we use in the spring, summer, and early fall is 11% bio-diesel. In the winter you need to be sure to not use this. It seperates. The fuel guy that comes to fill out tanks tells me that the "summer blend is 11% soy, where as the winter blend is more around 2%. Watch this. Last winter had the skiddy were it wouldn't run on that fuel because it seperates. Just my $.02

Duramax88 11-08-2007, 06:52 PM I have burned a few tank of off road.. The mileage went up, seemed to un a lil better too,, but oh well
hammo 11-08-2007, 10:28 PM Well, I will have to tell my friend it probably won't do any damage. Thanks, as always, for the informative answers.
