my truck has the flat style rectangular filter air box. after i installed a custom straight-pipe exhaust i can hear the air rushing thru the air box almost like it cannot get enough air. is there any way to make the air box flow better. I've heard that some have drilled holes in the air box and gotten better airflow and even a bit of turbo spool whistle. is it possible to drill holes in my "style" air box and get the same result as those of you with the round filters? the turbo whistle would be a plus but that sound of a vacuum cleaner coming from my air box has got to go. its driving me nuts. i am going to get a high flow air induction kit but i just don't have the funds at the moment so i'm wondering if i can do this as a temporary solution to that awful air rushing noise. thanks everyone.

I just got rid of my stock flat filter crap. I got a 3" short radius piece of PVC and the heavy duty filter for a 97-99 truck. I roughed up the filter side of the pvc and pushed the filter on. It fits very snug and also fits tightly in the tube going to the turbo so there are no leaks. It made the turbo very loud and the filter is huge!

I also painted the PVC black so it looks better.

Get a factory airbox from junkyard from a 97 or newer.Big difference and you won't be sucking hot air from under the hood.

I have 2 95's and did it. Cost me about 75 dollars each plus the filter element.
