My 05 2500HD has heater/AC controls that have driver and passenger contols for heat, but manual everything else. My last 2500HD had the automatic controls, set the temp and it did the rest. This is the only option that I had to give up with the trade, of course the main attraction was the D/A instead of the 6.0 gasser.
I really liked the automatic system http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif and was wondering what it would take to convert my new truck. It would be nice (if the price is right), if I could just change out the heater controller, just not sure if this is all.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Just for FYI, you can not get the automatic climate control if you have the plow-prep. Why, who knows.

I looked into doing this a few months ago. On my '02, I'd have to:

A) Tie into the light sensor in the middle of the dash (theres a 2nd one on trucks w/auto climate), or run a new sensor in the A-pillar

B) Buy the rheastat (sp) for the blower motor and rewire the plug for that

C) Buy an interior temp sensor (the little thing on drivers side that looks like a speaker) and run wiring to that

D) Buy the auto control head.

E) Find the correct wiring diagrams, buy the correct plugs (there are two on the auto controls...and they are not the same as manual ones) and rewire the plugs

F) Pray that I wired all the above correctly (so that I don't set the truck on fire) and hope that I don't need a dealer reflash to make it work

Other than the above steps, it seems like an easy job......

As for prices for the individual parts needed, I haven't looked that far yet. Maybe a salvage yard for a lot of it?
I couldn't tell you how to go about it on the 03's+...the wiring is completely different. I suspect you'd have to have the same list of parts, though, so the procedure probably would be the same.

Hope that helped.

Thanks for the information. I believe I'll live with what I've got.

I should have known it wouldn't be as easy as changing the controller. Oh well.

Thats what I love about this site, very few things someone hasn't tried or researched.:o
