Went to my local dealer (not the one who sold me my "new" truck) was told I had a gray market truck. Thought I'd better find out what else I have. Can someone check 1GTHK23163F184018?

I'm new to this...what exactly is "gray market" and what were you looking for?

What does mine say? 1GTHC29163E224673

Thanks for any explanation.

Thanks for any explanation. Gray market refers to the practice of bringing into the U.S. autos/trucks models that are either unavailable in the U.S. or models that can be purchased outside the U.S. for less $, then converting them to U.S. emission/safety stds for a small sum. Dealers/manufacturers hate the practice, cause they lose money. My gripe is, labeling trucks built in the U.S. and sold in Canada as "Gray Market" is ridiculous. My truck was built in Flint, MI, then shipped to Canada, the only thing that wasn't U.S. was the odometer, which GMC willingly converted when the truck was brought back across the border! In addition, NOTHING was said about it being "Gray Market" when I was buying it, and there are no conversion stickers on the truck! The selling dealer is saying "no problem" with regard to any warranty issues, but as he's 60 miles away, he knows he's off the hook, and the local dealer is the one raising his eyebrows. Add insult to injury, the local dealer is the one who took the truck in in the first place, then sold it to the dealer 60 miles away, where I found it!

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to get warranty.

You will see a lot less Canadian trucks being sound to the US now with the dollar the way it is. It is actually cheaper for us to buy US trucks now then Canadian trucks.

You're right about getting warranty work Max. As long as we're talking about the standard 36 month/60K type, I won't have any problems. But the warranties the dealer's don't want to talk about are like the extended injector warranty for the '01-02's. The current attitude from the dealer says "If it applied to '03's, it probably wouldn't cover your truck." My attorney says "We'll see."
