Some piece of crud attempted to break into cab via passenger side door. Jammed screwdriver or similar device up between the door handle and the door skin. Did not get in. Is the 2500HD vulnerable via this method? Owner wants to know.

I doubt that would work. What DOES work is stick a screw driver in the lock cylinder, force it in and turn it to unlock. What makes this method so popular is that it also disarms the alarm. They also do the same thing on fords and many, many other vehicles.

Best way to prevent against this type of attack is put rear handles in the front. Of course you will no longer be able to get in with the key.

Yes, very vulnerable. It is a very popular way of breaking into chevy trucks, believe me, in Jersey (auto theft capital of the world) we know about these things. I've replace many of the pull-out style door handles. There are door handle plates available to prevent this but i've never installed them. Here, I guess people are so use to it that they just use the "why bother, lightning never strikes twice" excuse. (yeh sure)
Apparently for thieves, it is easier to just pry the handle off with a screwdriver, than jam a screwdriver in the door lock which usually also requires a hammer. All you need is a some leverage (the door itself) & off comes the handle with very little noise.
The alarm doesn't go off because they still need to unlock the door, which is not such a big problem once access is gained into the the door handle area, the vehicle alarm then thinks the door has been unlocked with the key.

Clever Censored thieves.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but at least they didn't get the truck.

Plug in your truck and connect the wires to the door mechanisme and see how high his hair gets. A$$holes. And all they get is a slap on the wrist if they get cought.
Sorry to hear about the news.

Exactly...If I catch someone trying to steal from me again, you will find them on a milk carton. I am not fooling around with cops anymore. I've been robbed twice, and the next time, if I catch them, no cops will be involved.

I thought the newer chevy trucks wernt as easy to break into by prying off the door handle? I thought that was an old body style problem?

Shoot blueox(sp?) a PM, he set me straight on caralarm stuff.

Man that sucks and pisses me off:mad: Lightning struck me twice in under a year. What i would do to the POS that i catch breaking into my truck isnt something i wana think about, I know what i would want to do but the victim dosnt have the rights the scum does:mad:

Nice thing about an aftermarket alarm is that it will still go off if someone uses this method to get in.

My opinion is a flashing LED is 95% effective. Why would the break into your truck with a flashing LED (indicating it has an alarm) when they could break into the next one that doesn't have a flashing LED.

I have never had any of my vehicles broken into. Knock on wood. Could be luck, but I believe it is my alarm.

Maxpower,
I think you live in a civilized world - thats the reason nobody wanted to steal your truck!
A real specialist (locksmith) told me thats its very easy to get into the new Silverado / Sierra - I don't have any doubt.
My car has been stolen 3 times (same car) in Downtown New Orleans. Had to get another vehicle in a different color to prevent it.
Welcome to America!

Or the German shepherd going nuts trying to get out that is in the cab? :DGiant Schnauzer for me. 119 LBS of Black and White. Black Fur and White Teeth!

Real Friendly Dog.... Until you try to leave the premises or break into my truck.
LOL... had a few parents in my store who's kids wanted to play with the dog... they were pullin on his beard, slapping him, and all he did was lick them and lap up all their attention. One parent tried to grab her daughter from 'bugging my dog' lol... He got between her and her child so fast and 'Smiled' at her:eek:

LMAO... i finally had to give Odie his release command... as far as he was concerned the child was his!:ro)

But in the end i gave mommy her child back (Guess what.. 6 months later on my advice she has a Giant Schnauzer now as well:ro) and absolutely loves it!)

I have a pic somewhere of him picking up a 12'x4"Diameter pine pole to play 'fetch' with when i was building a fence! Between that and him crushing a 3" oak dowelling... let's just say when we playfight i know he is playing! Darn dog even uses his paws to 'Swat' at you... like a cat.... neat animal, but they are a bit stubborn sometimes.

I don't have one yet but I do agree a dog is probably the best security you can get.

Let him get freindly with the intruder and he will be three colors. Black with white and red teath.
I wish every state had the law that Texas has.
We have the concealed weapons law and that kept people at bay for a while, but it has been forgoten untill we had a couple of guys break into a church and Father NoNo (no disrespect) defended his property and he also defended his right in court when they tried to charge him with two counts of manslaugter. He got off. ;)

Here in Jersey, I use Physc-Ops.

I camoflage my truck as a POS by rarely washing it (it's white underneath) & leaving a few bags of nasty loose trash -:tin the bed while in seedy nieghborhoods.

Leaving it relatively stock looking also adds to the non-appeal (seems thieves here love the bling-bling) ):h

My neighbors theft pager went off in the middle of the night and when he looked out the window, he saw a guy in his truck trying to get the radio out. He went outside with a buddy and they held his hands in the door jamb of the truck and slammed the door on his fingers.
He passed out.
No police.

Everyone should have these types of neighbors, word gets out fast about "actions" like that (at least in my part of the world).
Makes the neighborhood a much safer place. ):h

Over the last thirtytwo years I have had the pleasure of training my own guard dogs. I have used both mixed and pure bred dogs.

The first pair of male mixed breed dogs came from the same litter of elk hound and lab. They had a great reputation with the neighbors. Among their many exploits, they caught five criminals on three seperate occations all on their own. The first occured when I was out of town on business. Two car thieves tried to steal my Eldorado from my driveway. Except for my driveway, my house and yard was surrounded by a tall wall and fence. The wall is between six and twelve feet high but the fence between the yard and driveway was only four feet high. When the thieves started on the car, the dogs went over the fence and trapped them between the garage and the wall. They kept them there all night and into the next day. When my ninety year old neighbor lady saw the dogs and the strangers, she called the police. The criminals confessed to their deeds but the the dogs would not let the police anywhere near. The frail ninety years old neighbor then came across the street and escorted the dogs back into the fenced yard. I did not know of this incedent until a week after I came home and just happen to talk to my elderly neighbor.

The other two times, the dogs went over the six foot wall catching and holding thieves breaking into another neighbor's property late at night. On one occasion, it was their car and the other occasion is was an attempted house breakin while the family was home. On the house breakin, the dogs had no mercy. Both thieves were bitten and mauled. One thief lost part of his ass. On both accasions, I was called to retreve my dogs so that the police could collar the thieves. This neighbor was confined to a wheel chair and was extremely afraid of dogs, even my dogs who I made sure was friendly with him. The day after the attempted house breakin, I was out in the yard working when I heard my neighbor on the other side of the wall calling my dogs. Once they barked, two juicy steaks were thrown over the wall. He was still afraid of dogs but he loved those two. Those dogs were my families constant companions and guardians for thirteen years. They will always be missed.
.
I now have German Sheperds, a standard sable colored female and an all black male. The black male is a hospital visitation dog during the day. Except for his teeth, you can not see him in the dark, an excellent quality in a guard dog. They both love the truck and each have their own kennel in the canopy. I pity anyone breaking into that truck but I will not call the dogs off until they are fully satisfied.
