I5 is based on the I6 that is used in the GMT 360-380 trucks, very good engine and the I5 appears to be dissapointment.

GM is supposedly working on an SS model. The concept vehicle had a 315hp turbo I-5. It looked sweet.

Eric

You claim that the I-5 has been a dissapointment. Could you elaborate?

My brother is loooking at getting a Colorado and when we drove them, it looked, sounded, and drove very well.

Every test I read in the rags they had overheating issues when worked in the summer.

I've got the GMC Canyon for a rental while my truck is at the stealer. I'm a little impressed with the I5. Got lots of low end but I'm a little disappointed in the acceleration while going 75. Maybe I'm just used to all the Diesel power.):h

thanks for the info guys i check out that site not a lot of complaints i just wander if long term if i where to get a i5 if it could hold up i m not aware for any other engines with a odd # of cyl it takes some sort of internal balancing does it not sound like gm is taking off our under the hood lights and glove lights etc to save some $$ to engineer this ****

There have been some 5 cyl. farm tractors and i believe some of the cross the pond cars had 5 cyl. too (MB).
There's more than a few Colorados setting in the parking lot and haven't heard anything bad yet.

I know you are looking for used but there is suppose to be a diesel engine for that platform for the 06 or 07 MY (probably a little to far off for you) that will also get put in the new H3. Rumored for 07 MY H3's which would be an equal time frame for a 2006 Colorado since the H3 is released in a couple months as an 06.

The Isuzu Dmax sold over seas has a 4 cyl diesel that would be sweet to have. I hope they bring it over here!

I had a Colorado for a month and a half and thought it was great. Really fun with the five speed.

I'm a little leary of first year or generation engines that GM puts out. Example, piston slap issues with the new generation gas 4.8L, 5.3L & 6.0L. I usually wait about three years to see if there are any issues with any of the new engines being release. The new Hummer H3 will have this engine. I just hope the overheating issues on the I-5 will be resolve by the time the H3 is release.
