Took truck in today, replacing 2 injectors. One in each bank. Technician says that they can only replace the failed injectors. Can anyone explain why all of them are not being replaced. I have a 2003 GMC with 45000 kms.

Thanks!!

They are expensive. When ever we have a problem with injectors in our trucks we just take care of the bad ones. I don't know how much they cost for the GM's but in a Detriot they are about $300 a piece.

What I am asking is that I thought that the 2001 & 2002 when they had a bad injector in both banks all injectors were replaced. Is that not correct and if it is why does this not apply for the 2003's.

Thanks!

I think this has been answered many times here. GM is replacing the earlier injectors because of design issues. The new trucks do not have the same issues. IMHO

The "all 8" policy does cover 03 and 04 trucks if they exhibit certain symptoms. Do not confuse that policy with the one that extends the warranty coverage on 01-02. They are 2 different policies.

Could you expand on the symptoms?

Thanks!!

This bulletin is being revised to include the fuel filter. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-06-04-007B (Section 06-Engine).

Important: Before the technician begins diagnostics and repair, be sure to follow the guidelines in Corporate Service Bulletin 03-06-04-036 to avoid fuel system contamination.

Important:: 'GM of Canada' dealers are required to contact the GM Technical Assistance Centre (TAC) to review the completed diagnostic worksheet and obtain a case number prior to injector replacement.

Condition

Some owners may comment on the Service Engine Soon light becoming illuminated. Upon investigation, the technician will find DTCs P0087, P0093 or P1093. Additional customer comments may include a lack of power, a fuel smell on the oil dipstick, fuel in the engine oil, fuel coming out of the crankcase breather, the engine cranks but does not run, or a hard start condition. This condition will not cause an engine misfire. Do not apply this bulletin to any diagnostic other than what is identified in the chart below.

Cause

The fuel injectors have internal conditions that may cause them to return an excessive quantity of fuel to the tank, as well as leak fuel into the crankcase. Due to the return flow and/or leakage, the fuel injection pump may not be able to build up adequate fuel rail pressure.

Correction

Important: Before the technician begins diagnostics and repair, be sure to follow the guidelines in Corporate Service Bulletin 03-06-04-036 to avoid fuel system contamination.

Follow current diagnostics for the condition the vehicle is experiencing, then reference the table below. If the diagnostics lead to Fuel System Diagnosis - High Pressure Side, follow the diagnostic until the Fuel Injector Return Flow is measured at each cylinder bank return connection (bank to bank).

basically, you have to have the correct 'problem' to get all of them replaced, if just high balance rate or a misfire on one or two, then just them get replaced. Like Max posted, if you have fuel in oil or those symptoms, you get 8

In my opinion, you should get 8 most of the time, but Gm dont agree with my thinking cause its not my pocket book
