I use the AC Delco 2232 filter and use Shell Rotella T. about every 5,00 miles. They say not to use synthetic until you get about 10,000 miles on it.

I used the AC PF2232 as well and Chevron Delo 400. Did my first change at 2,000 miles and will probably stick to that interval.

Synthetic oil is OK form day one for the Dmax as long as it's API certified and rated CH-4 or CI-4. Pesonally, I did 3 1000 mile oil changes with Delo 15W40 to flush the engine before switching to synthetic. Also regarding filters, the Mobil-1 M1-303 has the best specs followed by the Baldwin B1441.

For more info try the search feature ... Here is one example...

Try Autozone for the Mobil or STP. Napa sells Wix. Not sure what Checker has. Later! Frank

The AutoZones also sell the AC Delco for the Duramax, at least in my area. Price is about 8 or 9 bucks. I think the Mobil 1 is a dollar more.

Flush the engine??? These things aren't built under a tree somewhere. Mine came equiped with a oil filter also to catch all of that "dirt".

Mine now has 3200 miles with the origional oil. I guess me engine is now crap.

Maybe I don't know what I am talking about but that seems way overkill to me to drain oil at 1000 or 2000 miles.

Just my uneducated opinion.

Some may call this "tinkeritus"

I have certinaly been affected by that also. But I try to resist.

It never hurts to do a quick change on a new engine, as it breaks in there is going to be some junk in there, like metal, aluminum and who knows what else. Its cheap insurance on an expensive motor.

Guess I will be changing mine this weekend. As well as the Diff.(x2), Trans, Transfercase.

Been planning to do it and have all the stuff. Just wanted to wait till closer to 5000 miles.

Now I'mm scared to start it up to drive home from work with that origional oil in it.

Just kidding.

Switching everything to Royal Purple. Boy, that trip to the autoparts store was expensive. Good thing I don't have to change everything every time.

There used to be a thread that was frozen at the top with reccommendations for break in oil changes, as well as fluid and filter changes.
looks like it got lost with a change to the board format. Does anybody know where that thread may be?

Not a problem sean....By the way, do yourself and your garage floor a favor...buy yourself a fumoto valve and give your drain plug a toss.....When you drain your oil the first time, you'll know what I mean by this ):h

I was going to get one of those valves but it looks like it would stick out and if you hit something big it might get broken off and loose all my oil..Yes it is alittle hard to keep it clean when doing the oil change but i am still up in the air about that valve..Thanks again for your help..

The only modification I've done (so far) to my truck is to grind away a corner of the antiskid plate where the oil dripped (pored) during that first oil change.
Haven't changed the oil since the mod, but hoping this will do what partsguy662 is talking about.

I suppose that is possible, but I think you'd have to hit something just right to break it off, since it's on the backside of the oilpan...I have yet to hear of someone doing it yet though....
