I had it and am part of the same scenario..... dealers won't touch it because..

1) They claim they can't test drive it at 70 mph

2) Chrysler is aware and is working on a fix and they were told to not try to fix it.

Since I put the 35" tires on, I no longer notice it.

Dodge warranty ain't worth a dime..... they look for every way out of fixing anything including refusing to even acknowledge problems.

When there is a problem they have to call momma (STAR) to get approval. They aren't allowed to swap any parts on their own because if they do they won't get reimbursed.

This is my one biggest complaint about Dodge.

This subject has been beat to death on some of the other forums out there. I had the problem with my 2004 and was lucky in that it was fixed on the first visit. Mine was a TSB -- The upper power steering line needed to be replaced with a "weighted" one. It had a HUGE c-shaped weight attached to the line. It basically dampened the vibration and helped keep it out of the steering column.

Most people that have seen this problem have been between 64 and 80 mph depending on the gearing and transmission. It holds true that in almost any case it is present between 2000 and 2200 RPM. That is usually consistant.

There are other causes -- drive shafts out of balance, the TSB for the missing power steering weight, vibration passing between the exhaust and transmission via the exhaust mount on the transmission, out of balance tires, problems with lift kits, and on and on. These are some that I remember without digging back. You might want to look on the DTR or TDR for more detailed information.

Some of the dealers have been VERY helpful in trying to resolve this problem, but I'm going to have to side with Hoot -- most of them won't take the time to look further than the power steering TSB.

Hope this helps!

Judging by all of the posts floating around, Dodge is handling this extremely poorly. How sad. Something like this completely takes the joy out of purchasing a new vehicle.

This seems more common with the 2500 4x4 short bed than any other truck. Is that because that is the most common truck sold? Any reports of a 3500 SRW 4x4 having this issue?

-:t I currently own a Dodge and have had nothing but problems with it from day one. The first was at under 5,000 miles. The fuel pump went, took it to the dealer they called the next day said it was all set. When I picked it up the truck died again 2 miles from dealer. When I went back I found out that they didn't even look into it because the truck started for them. Second was the front end was out of alignment from day one and they couldn't get it right. Third the Tranny went at 30,000 miles and I never towed a thing with it because I knew the tranny's are weak. I brought it to the dealer and they replaced a couple of valves in the tranny. When I picked it up I could tell right away the tranny wasn't fixed, which means they never road tested it. After another 2 visits it was corrected. IMO Dodge's are poorly constructed trucks and are worth nothing when you try to sell them used. I'm currently trying to sell a fully loaded 2001 2500 ext. cab short bed for 12k and haven't gotten a single call on it in 2 months!Censored Look in the Want Ads or Auto Hunters. There are twice as many Dodges as there are Fords or Chevy's and they are going for cheap money. Sorry for the rant but, I had to take the opportunity to voice my own frustrations with Dodge. No offense to any Dodge owners who enjoy their trucks.;)

zx900b - It seems like I remember seeing a poll on TDR that had the models affected. Mine is a 2500 LWB.

Ozzy -- No offense taken, but every brand has it's lemons. My '03 Loaded Silverado Z71 was in the shop for 35 warranty claims the 14 months I had it before I went to Dodge. Here are some of the issues I remember:
Steering gear box wore out at 8k
Repainted cab roof, peeling
spare tire and carrier fell off damaging body, replaced, straightened and painted
replaced driver seat after 6 visits about loud popping in seat back
replaced stereo head unit at 3k for defective leds
headlight switch stopped working, replaced
Defective transfer case sensor
Spedometer stopped working, replaced instrument console
Transmission not shifting right - replaced pressure control solenoid
Had to re-weld tailgate hinge to make it fit right
Transmission slipping and not shifting from 2nd to 1st at 56k, traded truck

I forget what the other issues were, too many to remember. But I passed it off as my third consecutive Chevy lemon. I think I just have bad luck! :)

The Dodge has been in for two TSBs, some replacement cab light lenses, and a rear pinion seal so far. *fingers crossed*

Mine is the 04.5 CTD600 with 5k miles so far. No vibration with stock 17 inch wheels. Automatic with some towing of 7k trailer. Only problem is the door gasket and have not been back to dealer for that.

I think another issue tends to be 4x4 vs. 4x2. My truck is an 04.5 600 quad cab long bed 4x2. Thing rides smooth as silk. Love it to death. That said, it went in for the steering wheel not being straight... it's still not being straight, and the mechanic was hot rodding my truck (with me in it), and got angry when I told him to cool it. The only Dodge dealer that has impressed me is the one in Texas that I bought my truck from. Any others I've gone to, I've been thoroughly unimpressed with. The truck is great, but the DC warranty and support is not.

My truck is a 4X4 with short bed. Have been up to 80 and crusied at around 75 and no vibration to speak of. As for the dealers, I've never had luck with any of them no matter the make. My idiot Dodge salesman sent me a free oil change card-5 quarts of valvoline and a filter. Thanks a lot and it went right in the garbage. Never met a dealer that thought beyond the immediate sale.

I would agree with that but, every Dodge owner I talk to has the same problems.

Wait till you put some miles and years on your truck. I've had two and wish I had learned my lesson with the first one.

OZZY.

Wait till YOU put some mileage on that D/A. Hope yours was not like mine with constant injector failures, pressure regulator, torque convertor and much more. Just an awful lemon and it's what you just bought.

Both Dodge and GM have made changes since '01. I think the track record on the Dodge is real good. Hope, for your sake, that new GM is also improved.

So far the only problems have been the door seal, and the radio speakers in the drivers side rear door (bad ground) Other than that this truck has been great. I had an 01 Chevy Quad Cab LT Z71 - loved the way the truck road and handled. However, I purchased it for $34,000 and after 12 months had a little over $14000 in fixes (all covered by warranty thankfully) Nevertheless, that truck was history after 32,000 miles. Then I bought the Hemi 3/4, and got rid of it after 5 months.....Now I have the Cummins!!!!
