: Heath's PMD relocater?

I'm going through my second round of PMD failures in a year (last time my IP was replaced under warranty). WHile I could go through the whole warranty thing again, I already 'refreshed' my IP on GM's dime, so I dont want to go through that headache again, I just want my truck to run down the road without stalling.

That Brings me to Bill's PMD relocater. From all of the research I've done, his product seems to be the best. My question is, how much of a pain are they to install, and how fragile are they.

I'm fairly capable with a wrench, but I'm no mechanic. What does installation of one of these units entail exactly?

Likewise, I'm no hard core offroader, but when deer season rolls around my truck will spend some time in the bush. I understand Bill's PMD relocater is monted to the skid plate, will it be destroyed in no time off road, or is it pretty rugged? Personal experience on this account would be great.

I had no problems with it mounted there. But when I installed my intercooler, it went where the skid plate was. So I called Heath and they said mounted in the bumper would be fine. So now it is mounted behind the bumper, behind the license plate. I checked with the truck idling and put my hand back there, and you can feel air moving across it just idling. So it should be okay. I have had Heath's PMD relocater for 2 years and haven't had any problems.

Where it mounts on the skidplate it is unlikely to come into contact with much. I mounted mine there and it is almost under the bumper on the skidplate.

As far as ease of installation, it took all of 20 minutes to install. You drill four holes in the skidplate, bolt the cooling plate on, and then route your wiring. Hardest part for me was getting the wiring from the original PMD loose enough to attach the new harness.
