: 2003 Dmax rough Idle????

I have never had this before and want to make sure this is not something to be concerned about.

I started my truck this morning and all was fine. I had it plugged in last night so it started fairly quick. It turns over about 5 times before start.

After dropping off my son at school I noticed that it was idleing rough. Enough to shake the truck.

It did this everytime I stopped. I got to work (about 24 miles away) and turned it off. I restarted and it ran at high idle for a minute or so. (900-1000 rpms) Then it settled back to the normal 700 rpms. The truck still shook at idle. The Guyages would read ok after the truck idled down but the Voltage guage would read a lttle under 14 while it was idleing high.
Oil psi was 30 at idle and 60 at speed. 65-70 mph.
Voltage was fine at 14.
Temp around 190
Tranny temp was a little warm for this ride at 150. Normally it does not get quite that hot.
I also noticed that even after running today and the engine at temp the wait to start light would come on and stay on longer than usual when I would go to restart.

Any suggestions?

I did replace the fuel filter on Sunday with 10K on it. First on I let go that long. The rest have been changed at 5-7K.

PS I added this to the "Ask the techs section." Mods can remove if needed.

You had the truck pluged in. You had the winter cover on, and the truck was sitting for over 12 hours. Its my very good guess you set a SES light because the fuel temp was 17 deg different from the water temp.
I have an 02.
When you use the winter cover fold it in on the intake side. It will stay and let the truck's intake get more air. There is nothing wrong with your truck if the above is correct. I worked with G.M. and my trusty dealer on this for 3 months 2 years ago.

Cigars,
The winter cover was not on. I usually do not run with it on. It just doesn't get that cold.

UPDATE:
After work I got in. It hadn't been cranked or plugged in all day. SAME THING!! I am thinking CRAP!!
I went for a 40 mile drive to help my mom with some chores around her house. I blew the soot out of it a couple of times on the expressway.
When I got in it after it sitting for about 4 hours it ran like a champ. Started fine. No rough idle and seemed to have more power.
Funny thing is it used 1/4 tank going to Moms but the needle didn't move on the way home.

Not sure if it really used that much fuel or the guage was off.

I am gonna go bald scratching my head if I don't figure it out.

If it starts again it is off to the dealer with her. (the truck ...not mom..;) )

I have noticed that this only shows up after I plug the truck in at night. The dealer cannot reproduce the problem. They haven't ran any real test yet because I can't leave the truck with them right now. Might have to take it in after the hollidays. They have said that they have not heard of this before. Anyone here?

Thanks
Mike

Duramaxes are not like your old diesels quoted to me by a gm engineer(d-max),you don't need to plug in until 5 degrees or below,20 degrees if you have summer oil in the motor.and as far the winter cover goes i'm using it right now and it only gets 32 or even 34 at nights here....and i use it the whole day, just because it looks cool...and yes i even took her with it on when the gm engineer saw it and said it was ok.
