: Does anyone else have caliper rattle?

I seem to have both calipers shaking to the point it sounds like the front suspension is falling apart. I replaced the caliper bolts and it made no difference. The pads are still excellent and the rotors are still in good shape. Is there a point where the brakes are worn to the point the caliper does not stay snugg? I know it is the calipers making the rattle, because when I apply the brakes, the rattle goes away.

I replaced the brakes at 125,000 miles with Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads. I currently have 157,000 miles on the truck.

Any ideas?

How do you know its the calipers and not the brake pads themselves rattling when there is no pressure applied to them. I'd bet that's the real source of your noise. When you replaced your pads did you put a anti-squeal brake compund on the back of the pad before installation? If not, remove them and do so. Also if during replacement your pads came with a seperate metal backing plate remove that and use the anti squeal instead - those plates are known to cause rattle problems.

I do know it is the caliper and not the pads, because I can move the caliper and get the same clunking noise when driving. As far as the anti-squeal compound, I will have to ask dmaxalliTech (Eric) he did the work.

If Eric did it I'm sure it was done correctly - I'm sure he'll chime in with an opinion. :)

The caliper is supposed to move, there are rubber inserts inside bracket that caliper bolts go into. I had one pop out on me when I did a brake job on customer's truck, didn't even see it fall out, luckily I caught it on a test drive. The insert is what keeps the caliper on straight

Mike, i gotta bet that the rubbers inside the caliper where the bolts go are worn out.. Will need to replace the caliper hardware I think

Eric,

I have the bolts, do you have the rubber inserts?
