Well,
It looks like I have some kind of prob with the redapple. Last week I noticed a puddle under the drivers side of my truck. Thought it was my sons truck. We just had oil changed, and sometimes the oil puddles up in the skid plate. Well, I saw a new puddle today, and verified that it is my truck. Looks like it's dripping from the filter.
When I have more light I will take pictures and advise

um, is the filter tight? Gasket damaged?

First thing I will check when it gets light out. However, this filter has been on for about 2 1/2 mos before it showed signs of leaking. Also My driveway is on a steep angle, so if the leak is elswhere, it will flow to that point. A quick turn on the filter and a good visual should determine next step.
Thanks

Did sone further checking. Can't find anything leaking other than the filter. It was tight, so I can only assume that the seal is bad. Has anyone seen a filter just start leaking, no rime or reason? I will replace this weekend.
dmaxalliTech...thanks you hit the nail right on the head. At least my front driveshaft ujoint is well lubed

This is why it is a good idea to keep things clean. Makes it easier to spot leaks and their sources.

Maybe the colder weather caused seal to contract? Poor fit in the first place, and the colder weather caused. Not sure Redapple where you are in California.

about a month after i picked up my 03 it started to leak oil. It looked like the front pinion seal but it was the oil filter housing that bolts on the side of the block. they replaced the seal on it and its been fine ever since.

I changed the oil in mine towards the end of aug....jus shy of a month later i went up to see my sister's new place...it was in a developmetn and on a big slope, much like the one that used to be in your avatar....Parked truck mid-afternoon came out next morning to leave and noticed something underneath...checked it out motor oil...Sh!t got it level and checked level...tip top of stick.....looked under again and noticed it was dripping from filter, had only fancy clothes so jsut drove 40miles home and pressure ran right at 60 the whole way...got it home let it cool, checked again still ok.checked filter, it tighten about a 1/8 turn and that was all i could do... i only noticed it leak one other time, few weeks later, but i couldnt tighten it anymore...
I posted about it but never really found much out...However to me at least you bring up a possible answer...I know i spilled some on my skidplates and i didnt drive it very much between change and trip...and if i remember correctly the filter would be somewhat in line to get oil blown on it, from any oil on thats on the plate...maybe?
ive rambled long enough..

On the last oil change of the wifes tahoe I installed a new Wix filter and it dripped for a week before I discovered it.I always tighten 3/4 to 1 turn and it has always worked in the past.I put my filter wrench on it and gave her another 1/4 turn and it still leaked.
Put another new one on with a little dielectric grease(JK's favorite)):h and no more leak.Seal looked good so I guess it was a funky filter.
The parts store gave me a new one for free so its not unheard of.
