Here's the thing. Sometime probably around February/March my warranty will end, I'll hit 3 years AND 36,000 miles about the same time. I don't have any desire to sell/trade this truck until the wheels fall off or God forbid someone hits me and it's wrecked beyond repair. I don't put all that many miles on (I'll most likely hit the 3 year mark first). I use the truck when I need a truck, otherwise it's the '91 Jeep with 190,000 or the '00 Impala with 106,000 miles.

Money has become tight here latetly (and will be for a couple years looks like) which is kinda a double edge sword. Don't really have much to shell out for an extended warranty but at the same time if something expensive goes wrong on the truck after the warranty runs out I'm really screwed. I'm pretty confident in the reliablility of these trucks. My last 3 patrol trucks have been GMC 3/4 tons and they all have run darn near flawlessly up to 100,000 before trade in (hard miles too)......BUT, we're talking MY baby now.

I know there's a variety of extended warranties through GM, I've yet to talk to anyone about hard numbers so I don't know what it would cost. Is there outside companies that do similar things for less $$ that are worth it? I know it's cheaper to get an extended through GM before the factory one ends so this is probably something I should start looking into if I do.

any thoughts/advice :)

Hi Troop, I went with an extended warranty out to seven years. My thinking is some things go out just with time, and not necessarily mileage. If I was at the three year point and confident in my truck, I'd bank the warranty money if I was just trying to cover two years. Stay where you're comfortable. Good luck.

It's hard to pay for something you might never use but it worked out well for me. A/C commpressor died and got a new one for free. Payed for itself there not to mention the fuel filter housing and coolant overflow tank. Some times you guess right and sometimes not. Good luck.
