How many of you have done the MBRP exhaust install on an LLY extended cab long bed. I know it says you have to cut it to make it fit, but can some people give some pointers before i attempt.

The best way is to pre fit everything in first, than determine how much to cut off. Start with putting the tail section in, then the muffler, then fit the extension pipe in and place it against the side of the 4 bolt flange and make a mark to cut. Hope this helps.

so do you have to cut where the bend goes under the cross member or the straight end?

so do you have to cut where the bend goes under the cross member or the straight end? Before you cut anything, or anywhere. Talk to the dudes that sold you your kit.
I don't think you should have to cut anything although, I had to cut mine. I just got a lb7 unit instead the LLY. Talk to manufactor, they will clue you in.

If the kit is properly made and the correct one for your truck, you should not have to cut anything and it should fit. MBRP, as I understand it, builds their kits for each vehicle, and adds a piece for the CC version. That is the way it was on my 05 CC. That said, I have the aluminized version which arrived looking used or was at least installed before, a poor fit, hung down too low, and not the quality I had expected nor seen on the Banks I have installed before. However, I bought it because everyone had said it was as quiet as the stock, and it is. The funniest thing (or saddest depending on how you look at it) is a friend bought a cheapie $249 unit off ebay which looked better, fit better and cost at least $100 less. It is about the same noise level as the Banks. You decide where you want to put your money.

MBRP kits are made for CC SB's. There is also an extension pipe for CC LB that is included. If your truck is either a CC SB or a CC LB, there is no cutting. If its anything else, you will have to make a cut.

2002whitelightning- You will have to cut the long side away from the bend.

I just installed a MBRP 4 inch xp series exhaust in my 2005 ext. cab long bed dually this weekend. The only problem I had was with the instructions. According to the instructions I did not need to use the 18 inch extension pipe, which you do need to use to make everything fit. You will cut about 9.5 to 10 inches off the extention pipe with the bend in it to make it fit. My kit was also missing one D clamp because I had to use the additional 18 inch extention. Also after a lot of fitting I could not get the muffler to sit level with the frame, it's about an inch lower in the front.

Other than those two problems I am really happy with the exhaust.

Hope this helps.

John

You guys got instructions? In the used kit they sent me, no instructions, no warrantee, no nada! Maybe they figured I couldn't read.

2002WhiteLightning,

Check out our site www.dieselperformanceparts.com we have instructions you can print, sound bites and pics of the systems etc etc. The install is actually the easiest of all the diesel systems out there as compared. If you have any questions just call us up, we will be glad to help you.
