: trans destroyed??
pressley10r 11-02-2007, 11:20 PM first off i have ppe hot and a stock trans. last weekend i made the mistake of letting a friend borrow my truck, it comes back with a po700 code and is making loud clunking noises when i put it in reverse and "range shift inhibited" messages sometimes when i shift to drive. overall it just doesnt perform like it used to. Ive limped it a couple of times before this time but never did any damage like what was done this time. What damage do you guys think he may have done? burnt clutches or could something else in the tranny have come apart? ive seen overhaul kits by alto/red eagle. will this bring the tranny back to good working order or do i need to replace more stuff? thanks in advance.
03LB-7dmax 11-03-2007, 01:23 AM Could be your NSBU switch? But i would say your trans is.....letting go with life:eek:
pressley10r 11-03-2007, 10:10 AM yepp somethings definitely not right inside there... ive got a atsg manual on the way...
mark45678 11-03-2007, 10:17 AM change the safety switch out the shift slector that is on the trans, see if this helps first.
PPE hot on a stock trans at the 160 power level will take out the clutches , banging into gear means that its at full line pressure poss due to the fact it was slipping but NSBU switch is the first thing to look at.
jake8881 11-03-2007, 09:52 PM change the switch after a hot day in crazy larry mode i fried the S*it out of mine swaped it out all set :D
pressley10r 11-03-2007, 11:24 PM thanks guys, 3 suggestions works for me; just ordered a NSBU from merchants :thumb:
dmaxalliTech 11-03-2007, 11:35 PM Thanks for the order, it should ship out Monday.
But the bad news I'm afraid is that there is likely some more serious damage that will require the trans to be removed. I'd love to talk it over with you and discuss your options and what will work best for you.

I agree with, dmaxaliitech. This will not fix your "Clutch" problems, might start thinking about upgrade.
tator1 11-04-2007, 12:31 AM Newbie here. I am in the process of buying a used (73K) 2003 2500HD with the allison auto trans. I have been told by several friends that own Superduty's that they would rather have the better Allison trans. Is this a true statement that Allison is the better trans, or just another "opinion" . This will be my FIRST ever diesel purchase and I hope that I am not getting into a major repair issue (money pit) with this truck so we have purchased an extended warranty). You advise/experience will definately help my nerves. I have read threads re: the injector issues with the LB7 as well. Is this hit or miss as well?

The allison is the best trans out there, but if abused it will have a depleted life.If taken care of.....its documented on here of 300,000k+ w/out problems. The injector thing.....it has a 7/200k warranty, just have the dealer check the balance rates. Anything over -/+4.00 in park and -/+6.00 in drive is bad.
These are very reliable trucks,so go ahead and get that duramax!!!!

no kidding, it never fails, I never learn my lesson, buddies always ask me to borrow tools, equipment, vehicles etc., and stuff always comes back out of fuel, damaged, broken, or most of the time all three:mad:

There are three things you Never should loan out b/c they always come back different:
1. Tools
2. Vehicles
3. Women :D
tator1 11-04-2007, 07:42 PM Balance rates---I will definately make a note to ask their tech if that was done as well as if they changed the fuel filter. Is it true that diesel crankcase oil get dark fast unlike gassers...if so how do you check...just for level until the mileage determines when to change it ?? The truck 03 2500 quad cab still has the ac delco factory batteries. I also found out that it has had only one previous owner (before the dealer of course)...locally here in Phx. I would assume that the truck was used for towing because along with the receiver hitch, it has a gooseneck hitch as well.
Dmax Tim 11-05-2007, 08:10 AM I'd make them change the oil before you buy it, maybe even the tranny fluid/TC and rear ends too. that way you start off good and don't have to use your money to do it next week.
