At the local truck pull I went to, I was told by two guys that chevy is going to be making there 08 or 09 HD's available with a straight axle, they arent putting it on all of it but it would just be an option, I would think it would be cheaper myself. Anyways im sure this is just BS but thought I would throw it out there, but I doubt we could be that lucky! Even though it wouldnt really matter to me if U couldnt get a manual transmission anyway:mad:

It has its benefits, but i like the IFS the way it is on account of the adjustable t-bars

I have heard that they are moving over to an IFS coil over system for the GMT900 hd's. Apparently they released cad drawings of the coil over setup for the 07.5 GMT900s to some lift manufactures. Unfortunately, GM ended up scraping the coil over on the 07-08 GMT900HDs for some reason. I know of at least one lift manufacturer that already has a kit built for the new coilover system. Not sure if we will see the coilovers in 09 or 10 but we should see the coil over setup shortly.

I agree the ifs is great for just a daily driver and a little towing, ten times better ride than most straight axles, but in my case I like lifted applications and it would just be so much nicer to have a straight front axle, for strength, and other reasons, Im sure the sled pullers and drag racers would agree too since i would think cranking your t bars up and down every pull gets old, just my .02
And if you dont mind, what do you mean by the GMT900HDs, i've just never heard of that.
