Hi,

I brought my '03 2500 in for an oil leak at about 25,000 miles and they fixed a leak on the back of either the block or the head. (Service writer was confused) Well, at 30,000 I noticed more oil dripping down at the back of the block. Brought it in to get the intermediate steering shaft replaced and had them check out the leak. That was Thursday 12/2. They thought it was the rear main seal and by Friday they had the tranmission (4WD) out. Turns out it was not the main seal, but "something else". (brilliant service writer didn't know what!) They still have the truck, but expect it to be completed by the end of the day.

So, are oil leaks common on duramaxes? Should I just start thinking of it as a 4 door Harley? What else will start to dribble?

Please respond with your oil leak (or lack of) history.
Thanks!
John

Well, I got the truck back this evening.

From the printout;

Intermediate shaft --> replaced.
Upper oil pan gasket leaking oil, removed transmission and front differential, cleaned and sealed oil pans

Engine block heater found to be leaking --> replaced

Everything seems to be tight and dry now. But it is kinda scary that the transmission and front differential had to be removed!
