I don't believe anyone makes a true Jake brake style retarder for the Dmax but I do have a US GEAR Decelerator exhaust brake. I love it and will never go back to towing in the mountains without one. With a gross weight of 17,500#s it'll hold me back on a 7% grade to whatever speed I want. ( I have the ZF6 so I'm not sure how it would do with the Allison) In fact it'll actually slow me down to where I have to upshift a lot of the time. Much better than having to watch the RPMs hit 3600+ and worrying about brake fade.

I recently saw an add in a magazine for a Banks Exhaust Brake....I don't know anything else about them though.

The 4500 and up trucks have a air operated exhust on them as a factroy op.I know as my does and i love the fact that it has a 3gallion air tank. It does 85% of my braking slows the truck down to approx 10mph.

That on the 6.6 duramax, or the bigger one? It'd be interesting to see about putting a factory exhaust brake on it and what it'd do to the warranty, if anything.

That is on the 6.6 d-max.The build sheets say that it is UPC=6N 4 I have been told that the brake was made to GM specs. It has a switch on the dash turn it on take your foot off the fuel and goes on.

BD also makes a very good exhaust brake. I have used mine for over two trouble free years.

I have a BD brake in my garage waiting for the time to install it. In my search for info on these, I found four companies that make aftermarket exhaust brakes (in addition to the OEM GM MDT brake):

Pacbrake (http://www.pacbrake.com/exhaust/dura.html)
BD-Power (http://www.bd-power.com/gmc/product.php?pn=Exhaust%20Brakes&tt=gmc)
Banks (http://www.bankspower.com/banks_brake_home.cfm)
US Gear (http://www.usgear.com/dcelerator.htm)

Expect to spend about $1200 for the brake itself + installation if you hire it out.
